Bowers & Wilkins Intros Pair of 700 Series Signature Premium Loudspeakers

Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has introduced a pair of new Signature loudspeakers in the 700 Series: the stand-mount 705 Signature and the floorstanding 702 Signature.

Like previous Signatures, which were launched in 2017, the new models feature an upgraded crossover design and new cabinet finish. With the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top assembly, Continuum cone drivers, and Aerofoil profile bass drivers, the Carbon Dome tweeter is carefully optimized and there are rigid cabinets.

As Signature products, the new 705 and 702 Signature have received further, detailed improvements enabled by upgraded crossover designs and components. Both models now feature specially treated and upgraded bypass capacitors sourced from Mundorf, larger heatsinking and, in the case of the 702, an upgraded LF capacitor on the bass section of the crossover.

Available in a new Datuk Gloss ebony-coloured veneer with a distinctive grain, the custom-designed finish combines exotic real-wood veneers with sustainably sourced supply from specialist Italian wood company Alpi. Each pair of speakers is unique, with no two models sharing the same grain pattern or figuring. B&W adds to Alpi’s workmanship by applying nine coats of finish, including primer, base coat, and lacquer to create a “deep, lustrous appearance,” says the firm.

Accentuating and highlighting the quality of finish on each model, both Signature speakers have bright metal trim rings around the mid/bass and midrange cones plus bright, silver- finished tweeter grilles. Finally, both models have a Signature identity plate on their rear panel.

The 702 Signature floorstanding model has a three-way vented box Tweeter-on-Top, three 165mm Aerofoil Profile bass, one 150mm Continuum FST midrange, decoupled, and one 25mm Carbon Dome tweeter. It will be available in July 2020 for US$6,500/pr.

Also available in July 2020 and priced at $4,000/pr., the 705 Signature stand-mount speakers include a two-way vented box Tweeter-on-Top, one 165mm Continuous bass/midrange, and one 25mm Carbon Dome tweeter.
