Roon Labs Releases New Software 1.8

Roon Labs has introduced the latest version of its software, 1.8, which brings a new immersive experience along with more features, including a gallery view of music that you can more easily browse and explore.

Roon 1.8 presents a fresh, modern design with bold typography. Each of the new layouts, from the new Home and artist screens to the composer and genre pages, are curated for each user. The new vertical scroll makes it quick and easy to find music from any device so the Roon experience is consistent and seamless across desktop, tablet, and smartphone.

Roon 1.8 brings new browsing capabilities and recommendations. Combining Roon’s deep metadata and learnings from how Roon’s community of 100,000 expert listeners use the platform, including each user, suggestions are made with that are tailored to each individual listener.

Connect a Tidal or Qobuz streaming services account to your Roon account for access to high-resolution music.

Roon’s Focus feature can now be used to find music anywhere in Roon, even across Qobuz and Tidal, giving you a 360-view of favorite artists, genre, performers and composers. Browse and filter the most significant albums from your favourite artists along with their top collaborations, influences, and connections to artists you already love. Browse a variety of new Roon-powered recommendations; the new Discography view makes it easy to browse catalogs from many artists.

The 1.8 release features a new visual style and information layout for classical music, helping you explore the genre from the perspective of the composer, performance, period, or more. It also provides tighter links between albums and composers, as well as simpler browsing and intelligent recommendations based on the composer, performer, composition, or conductor to whom you’re listening.

The new Discography feature also includes a new “performances” view, where you can use Focus to find exact performances, whether it’s Martha Argerich performing Chopin, a Nocturne, all Bach recordings by Glenn Gould, and more.

The updated Home screen in 1.8 includes a new dashboard of your listening habits over time, broken down by top artists, albums, and genres. This can be switched to show data for the last week, month, year, or all time.

You also get a calendar view of what music you’ve been listening to over the last four weeks and clicking on each section offers deeper insight into your listening habits, down to the minute.

There are now also quick links to the Roon Community within the app.

“Roon users are expert listeners, which means they mine their favourite subgenres fanatically,” says Roon founder and CEO, Enno Vandermeer. “The data about that listening, in turn, is what makes Roon’s music suggestions feel so human. It’s the Roon community that makes these innovations possible.”

Roon 1.8 goes live on February 9, 2021.
