Cambridge Audio has announced the launch of their first over-ear headphone called the Melomania P100. P100 joins the recently launched M100 true wireless earphones to form the new Melomania range for 2024.
Melomania P100 builds on Cambridge Audio’s 50 years of audio expertise and features premium drivers and hi-fi-grade Class AB amplification. A custom 40mm premium three-layer composite driver with neodymium magnets has been matched with Class AB amplification, as used on Cambridge’s highly acclaimed CX Series hi-fi amplifiers.
To ensure this combination of premium driver and class-leading amplification is allowed to reach its full potential, P100 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless wireless technology. This enables wireless playback in CD quality with no lossy compression.
A 60-hour battery life (extending to 100 hours with noise-cancelling turned off) ensures that the listening experience could easily last a working week or a lengthy holiday. Fast charging means that just five minutes of charge time offers another two hours of ANC-enabled playback or 4 hours without ANC. The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) offers three user-selectable settings to give the best user experience.
As with all Cambridge products, P100 has been designed, tuned and engineered at the Cambridge London music venue and HQ by the same team behind Cambridge hi-fi equipment.
Right out of the box, P100 is tuned to deliver the acclaimed Cambridge sound known to be transparent and natural that can be manipulated to a user’s personal taste via the Melomania Connect control app. A seven-band EQ can be used to tweak the sonics manually while six presets are offered tailored to multiple music genres.
P100 supports Gaming Mode, which ensures near-perfect screen/sound sync while playing the latest games and can correct syncing issues with certain video content. Latency has been reduced to just 80ms.
For an ultra-comfortable fit, the earcups have pads made from carefully selected memory foam covered in faux leather. Cambridge states that an “enormous amount of time and testing have been put into selecting the ideal clamping force to suit the largest variety of head sizes.” The headphones are made from 50% recycled plastic, and are also shipped in 100% recyclable plastic-free packaging. Earcup pads are all user-replaceable
This drive to create a more sustainable product builds on Cambridge’s support as Founding Donor of the eco-music charity EarthPercent, which was co-founded by the iconic Brian Eno.
Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 are available this month priced at £229/€279/$279US and in a choice of white or black finishes. Cambridge Audio is exclusively distributed by the Watershed Group in Canada
