Dashcams are useful in vehicles, helping capture potential thieves or accidents, with footage you can use for an insurance claim. The Looki L1 is taking a similar concept and bringing it to the wearable space, but for the purposes of fun daily logging. It’s an AI wearable that can capture moments on the go in the same way your smartphone does. But like smart glasses, it’s a more passive, hands-free experience for capturing content, getting AI assistance, and providing actionable insight.

The Looki L1 is a device you can wear clipped to your clothing, around your neck, or even placed down beside you. Using multimodal sensing and real-time intelligence, it sees, hears, understands, and augments your life proactively. This is through scene-adaptive intelligence that detects what you are doing in real-time and instantly connects you to related knowledge. Designed to be worn, held, or aimed, it’s arguably in a category of its own, like a mash-up of smart glasses, journaling, and AI. It’s described as both a vlog tool and an AI companion.
“AI in wearables have long been reactive, triggered by a button, demand, or a forgotten to-do,” says Looki Founder and CEO Yang Sun. “We decided to build something different. Looki L1 sees and hears what’s around you, understands the context, anticipates what you might need next, and delivers it proactively.”

The Looki L1 is compact, ultra-light, and powered by a battery that lasts up to 12 hours in Story Mode. Use it to take high resolution photos and videos and play music with 32GB of onboard storage. It employs a glass-mounted waterproof form factor designed for all-day wear.
L1 perceives light, motion, sound, and behaviour and identifies patterns, mood, and context. Built with privacy at its core, Looki L1 processes sensitive data securely on-device and gives you full control over what is stored, shared, or deleted. It’s best for those who move quickly through different environments, like creators, professionals, travelers, and active everyday users who wants a device that anticipates their needs rather than waits for commands.

By interpreting context in real time, L1 helps you stay present, capturing the right moments and receiving timely insights. You can even automate your vlogging, remember more with voice promoted recall, and share more with a daily AI powered recap. It’s admittedly a little creepy when you think about it, like a device following you everywhere to help you create your own life documentary!
Scene-adaptive intelligence automatically switches among three main modes. Each mode is built around a distinct user-need, based on what L1 senses in real time, and includes a mode for events like trade shows, such as CES, called Expo Mode. This mode automatically captures environmental context, recognizes people and interactions, surfaces daily insights, and recommends what to revisit or follow up on. Another is Fitness Mode, which detects activities, tracks motion and rhythm, delivers automatic health and performance summaries, and issues real-time cues to optimize your workout or activity. The third mode is Everyday Life Mode, which observes your routines, focus patterns, and lifestyle habits and delivers personalized suggestions to help you live smarter, with better balance, awareness, and presence, says the company.

Priced at U$199, Looki L1 is one of those strange devices at CES that I look forward to seeing in person. I’m unsure of how or why someone might use it, but it does seem like a modern-day version of journaling combined with a health and wellness wearable and content capture device all in one. Stay tuned for more once I see it in action.
