Focal introduced the Bathys wireless hi-fi headphones with active noise cancellation (ANC) late last year, and today, the company is announcing a new Dune finish along with a new feature that allows you to adapt the headphones to your personal hearing.
The Bathys headphones (pronounced “bat-ees”) are the company’s first Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones. The new luminous Dune finish joins the existing black silver finish, and is featured across the entire package, including the carrying case and even the cables. The Dune finish is inspired by quarry minerals, Greek landscapes, and desert sands. It combines a beige color with silver details (grilles, rings, etc.) for an elegant, mellow and harmonious finish.
The neutral beige shade, says Focal, is easy to pair with any colour of outfit. Like the black silver version, it combines refined materials, including magnesium on the yokes and genuine leather on the headband, with an optional backlit flame in the centre of the earcups.
In addition to the new colour, Focal has added a new feature called the Mimi hearing test that adapts to the wearer’s personal hearing profile. Available via the Focal & Naim app, this allows you to configure the sound delivered by Bathys according to your hearing. The feature is also available for existing owners of the black silver version through a simple update to the Focal & Naim app.
The headphones use Bluetooth 5.1 multi-point or wired connection via the integrated USB-DAC mode, with resolution reaching 24 bits/192kHz. Made in France, the speaker drivers comprise an aluminum/magnesium dome for deep bass, mellow treble, and crystal-clear vocals, says Focal.
The noise-cancelling technology includes an optimized ‘Silent’ mode for noisy environments, like on planes and trains, while the ‘Soft’ mode can be triggered to help you to concentrate at home. There’s also a transparency mode. Additional features include Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistant support, adjustable EQ, connectivity (Bluetooth, jack, USB), 30-hour battery life (five extra hours available in 15 minutes thanks to its fast-charging function), and more.
The Focal Bathys in Dune are now available for $699.
