Google has announced the latest new features coming with the next Pixel Feature Drop, some of which started rolling out today and others coming in the next few weeks.
Updates for Pixel Phones
Gemini Live is getting an upgrade thanks to 2.0 Flash, with improvements in understanding and multilingual conversation. Now, you can speak to Gemini Live in any combination of over 45 languages without having to change your language setting. Start talking and Gemini Live will take it from there.
The multimodal capabilities in Gemini Live announced in January 2025 and launched for Pixel 9 users are now rolling out to all Pixel 6 and newer and Pixel Fold devices. You can add images, files, and YouTube videos to your conversations to provide more context about what you’re looking for or trying to understand. In the coming weeks, you’ll be able to interact with Gemini Live through live video and screen sharing with Gemini Advanced.
There’s a new suggestion feature in Pixel Screenshots that automatically suggests screenshots to add to your collections. You can also use the Pixel Screenshots app with your work profile to easily organize receipts for expenses.
Using Pixel Studio, you can create images with people to share with friends and family by simply typing in a description of a person or scene.
Only available in Japan and Germany for now, Pixel users will receive Pixel AI weather reports and Pollen tracker in the Weather app. Japanese speakers will also get AI-powered summaries in the Recorder app.
Scam Detection for phone calls has been enhanced with Gemini Nano. It can detect conversation patterns in calls commonly used by scammers in real time and notify you if it notices anything suspicious. Scam Detection is now available in Google Messages as well, using on-device AI to flag conversational text patterns commonly associated with scams to identify messages that seem harmless but might not necessarily be so. If it detects that something is amiss, you’ll receive a real-time warning to easily block and report the conversation.
Google is expanding Satellite SOS to Canada along with Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe so you can stay connected to emergency services, even without a cellular or Wi-Fi network.
You can now use Find My Device to share your live location with friends and family, and vice versa.
The Gboard Voice Toolbar makes it simple to type without needing access to the full keyboard on your Pixel phone. Activate modes by swiping down from the top of the screen and exploring customizations for situations like Driving, Bedtime, and Do Not Disturb.
Updates for Google Pixel Watch 3
Now available in the U.S. is the previously announced Loss of Pulse Detection for the Google Pixel Watch 3, now that the feature has received U.S. FDA clearance. This feature in the smartwatch can detect when someone’s heart suddenly stops beating from an event like pulmonary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning. Once detected, it will automatically prompt a call to emergency services for potentially life-saving care if you are unresponsive.
Additionally, you can now view on-device menstrual cycle tracking via the Pixel Watch 3 screen so you can log periods, view cycle status, and see predictions for your next period.
Google also says the Pixel Watch now tracks steps with greater precision and accuracy by better recognizing when you deviate from a typical walking pattern, like pushing a shopping cart or wheelchair, jogging with a stroller, or hiking with poles.
Auto-bedtime Mode, which launched with Pixel Watch 3, is now expanding to Pixel Watch 2 to automatically detect when you fall asleep and turn off your watch face and disable notifications to minimize distractions. Auto-bedtime Mode helps conserve battery overnight and senses when you wake up to turn Bedtime Mode off.
Manage your favourite audio content with new actions on Pixel Watch to fast forward and rewind, adjust playback speed, or control playback queue.
Updates for Pixel Fold
For Pixel Fold users, Dual Screen Preview now supports video recording. Pixel 9 Pro Fold users can now also use Add Me with Dual Screen Preview so everyone can be in the picture.
Other Updates
With Connected Cameras, you can connect your Pixel to another camera, like a GoPro or another Pixel phone, and use the cameras on all these devices to stream to social media platforms from different angles.
If you have recordings on your older phone or Pixel Watch, you can transfer them to your current Pixel phone and they’ll be transcribed automatically in the Recorder app.
The March Pixel Drop begins rolling out today and will continue over the next few weeks.
