Google’s Try On Shopping Feature That Lets You Virtually Try on Items is Now in Canada

Google has officially rolled out its new Try On shopping feature in Canada, which allows you to virtually “try on” clothing using a full-body image of yourself.

Available on both mobile and desktop versions of Google Shopping, the feature is powered by Google AI and is designed to help you get at least a general idea of how something might look on you. While it can’t account for fit, of course, you can check out style and trends, perhaps visualize how different items might go together.

To try it out, simply look for clothing items on Google, like shirts, pants, skirts and dresses: shoes, lingerie, bathing suits, and accessories are not supported. Select the “try it on” icon in the product listing, upload a full-length image of yourself, and you’ll see the result. Maybe you want to check out a new LBD or winter coat. For guys, it might be a T-shirt or pair of jeans. From there, you can decide to add to cart by being directed to the merchant’s website, save the look later to come back to it, or share it with friends if you want a second opinion.

How does it work? It’s powered by a custom image generation model for fashion, which is designed to understand both the human body and the nuances of clothing. While it doesn’t compare to physically trying on an item, of course, it’s world’s better than seeing the image on a six-foot, pencil-thin model whose body type and face is nothing like yours.

Try On works in Google’s Shopping Graph across Search, Google Shopping, and even when looking at product results via Google Images. Along with simply trying on the basic items you see, you can also experiment with different colours.
