iFi audio has introduced the ZEN Air DAC 2, the latest version of its entry-level desktop DAC/Amp. The ZEN Air DAC 2 is designed to provide straightforward home audio listening with minimal cost and complexity. With a midnight blue finish, the new model offers updated styling, a revised headphone listening experience, and upgraded Cirrus Logic DAC circuitry for improved dynamics, clarity and reduced distortion.
The ZEN Air DAC 2 uses a Cirrus Logic bit-perfect DAC, previously used in iFi’s portable devices. The DAC is included for its ability to present audio detail in a natural manner. The new model delivers improvements in clarity, dynamics, and distortion compared to earlier versions.
This edition features a 4.4mm balanced headphone output, a feature previously only available in the standard ZEN series. Balanced headphones can benefit from reduced noise and crosstalk, as well as improved spatial separation. The DAC 2 also supports single-ended headphones, with the potential for increased performance as users upgrade their setups.
The balanced circuit allows the ZEN Air DAC 2 to provide up to three times the headphone drive power of its predecessor. The device includes iFi’s “XBass+” for low-frequency enhancement and “PowerMatch” to increase gain by 6dB for headphones that require additional drive. Both features are accessible via buttons on the front panel.
Additional improvements include a midnight blue finish, metal front panel, and a dedicated power button for easier integration and control within audio setups. These updates were incorporated from user feedback.
The ZEN Air DAC 2 is exclusively available in Canada through Gemsen and priced at £129, $129 USD, €149, $189 CAD.
