Kensington has introduced a pair of new docking stations: the SD4790P USB-C and USB-A 10Gbps Quad 4K Hybrid Dock and the SD5800T Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 Quad Video Docking Station.
The SD4790P is a single docking solution that supports up to four external Ultra HD monitors, and provides 10Gbps data speeds and 100W power delivery to Thunderbolt 4, USB4, USB-C, and legacy USB-A laptops. Ideal for use in mixed technology environments, the SD4790P works with Windows, macOS, and Chrome laptops, and offers support for up to Quad 4K @ 60Hz. It also supports plug-and-play for dual displays, and the ability to select between HDMI and DP++ connections. A consistent, reliable connection between the docking station and laptop is secured by a host cable with a screw lock connector. Supporting Kensington’s sustainability commitment to reducing environmental impact, the plastic material used in the SD4790P is composed of 73% post-consumer recycled content (PCR).
It supports plug-and-play for dual displays via USB-C Alt mode or expansion to Quad 4K @ 60Hz via two DisplayLink connections. Six video ports allow you to select among HDMI 2.0, DP++ 1.4, and DP++ 1.2 without the need for adapters. The dock provides triple-display support for MacBook M1/M2/M3 laptops.
Optimized to work with different devices and operating systems, the SD4790P supports Thunderbolt 4, USB4, USB-C, and legacy USB-A laptops running Windows 10 or above, or macOS 11 or above, and Chrome OS 114 or above.
SD4790P allows you to work more efficiently by connecting to a variety of accessories and devices through two USB-C 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps front ports and four USB-A 3.2 Gen1 5Gbps back ports. The Gigabit Ethernet port provides a fast and reliable connection for network-intensive applications. The audio combo jack provides the functionality of both a headphone jack and microphone jack into a single connector.
It supports up to 100W for USB-C Alt Mode laptops and continues to charge connected accessoreis even when the host laptop is not connected. An optional power splitter (K38310WW) is needed to supply power for USB-A laptops.
The SD4790P can be mounted out of the way to maximize desktop space and provide a tidier workspace (mounting bracket sold separately). The integrated security cable lock slot enables you to protect the dock from theft with a Kensington cable lock (sold separately).
Free Kensington DockWorks software provides features such as Wi-Fi auto-switch, MAC address ID pass-through and reset, and device connection monitoring, to deliver the best connection, performance, and security from the SD4790P.
“The ability to provide the productivity-enhancing benefits of docking stations, such as extending the laptop workspace across multiple monitors, can be a challenge in mixed technology environments,” says Lisa Schuiteboer Shuler, Manager of Product Marketing, Global Marketing at Kensington. “The universal design of the SD4790P eliminates the need for different docks in mixed technology environments, enhancing the productivity and efficiency of users regardless of the laptops that they are using.”
The Kensington SD4790P USB-C® and USB-A Quad 4K Hybrid Dock (K33610NA) is covered by a three-year limited warranty and professional support, and is available now in North America.
The SD5800T Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 Quad Video Docking Station is a plug-and-play docking station that supports up to four 4K monitors, delivers data transfer speeds up to 40Gbps, provides up to 100W of power delivery, and features 16 connectivity ports.
Providing a plug-and-play experience with no required drivers or downloads required, the SD5800T is one of the first Thunderbolt 4 docks capable of supporting Quad 4K displays, says Kensington. It’s compatible with Windows (10 of later) and macOS (11 or later), as well as Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4, and USB-C devices. Ideal for graphic designers, video editors, and animators, the 16-in-1 design includes built-in UHS-II SD and microSD card readers for the efficient transfer of files at ultra-fast speeds.
SD5800T supports up to four external displays via two HDMI and two DisplayPort (DP) ports, providing options to accommodate different setups. The dock supports quad 4K @ 60Hz or single 8K @ 60Hz with DSC enabled on Windows laptops, and dual 6K @ 60Hz on MacBook models with M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2 Pro, M2 Max, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chipsets.
The Thunderbolt experience transfers data, video, and audio at speeds up to 40Gbps, and blocks peripheral devices from unauthorized access to system memory using Intel VT-d DMA protection.
In all, the SD5800T incorporates 16 connectivity ports, including: HDMI (2), DisplayPort (2), Thunderbolt host, USB-C 3.2 Gen2, USB-A 3.2 Gen2 (3), USB-A 3.2 Gen1 (2), USB-A 2.0, combo audio jack, SD and microSD card readers (2), and 2.5Gbps Ethernet.
Ideal for devices that require higher power, the SD5800T delivers up to 100W (98W certified) of Power Delivery to compatible laptops while powering connected accessories. It offers a zero-footprint mounting option, enabling you to mount the dock out of the way to maximize desktop space and provide a tidier workspace. Integrated lock slots enable you to protect the dock from theft with a Kensington cable lock (sold separately).
Free Kensington DockWorks software provides features like Wi-Fi auto-switch, MAC address ID pass-through and reset, and device connection monitoring, to deliver the best connection, performance, and security from the SD5800T.
“While today’s premium laptops are designed to meet the advanced computing needs of professionals, including support for multiple monitors and ultra-fast data transfer speeds, the docking station has been the bottleneck for leveraging the full capabilities of these machines in a desktop environment,” says Lisa Schuiteboer Shuler, Manager of Product Marketing, Global Marketing at Kensington. “The SD5800T enables users to truly unlock the full potential of the laptop with the ability to instantly connect up to four external monitors, transfer data at ultra-fast speeds, and connect to a wide variety of accessories and devices, through a single Thunderbolt or USB4 port.”
The Kensington SD5800T Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 Quad Video Docking Station (K32856NA) is covered by a three-year limited warranty and professional support, and is available now in North America through Amazon.
