Lumia 2 Are Smart Earrings That Track Blood Flow

We’re familiar with smartwatches, and now smart rings are becoming more popular. But Lumia has an interesting new concept with the Lumia 2, smart earrings that can track typical vitals and metrics as well as purportedly continuously track real-time blood flow to your head. From there, you can gain insight into how blood flow affects energy, focus, and mental clarity.

Originally developed with Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Harvard researchers to help patients with chronic blood flow disorders like Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Long COVID, Lumia is now available to everyone for the first time. Lumia 2 packs nearly six years of engineering breakthroughs and clinical research into the tiny smart earring back that weighs less than a gram and is five times smaller than AirPods.

Indistinguishable from fine jewelry, Lumia 2 can be worn as huggie hoops, cuffs, and ball studs offered in gold, silver, and clear finishes. It can also also attach to any push-back earring using patent-pending SwitchBack technology. The cuff does not require a pierced ear.

Beyond blood-flow tracking, Lumia 2 can track sleep, temperature, menstrual cycle, and readiness. This is all through the second-gen PreciseLight sensor in the Lumia Core smart earring back combined with processors, a battery, and more health sensors. Sitting close to the heart and brain, it captures health signals that aren’t possible to track from the wrist or finger.

In addition, Lumia offers performance-optimized Lumia Earrings that are low-profile, sleep-friendly, and made with non-allergenic materials like platinum and titanium. The earrings feature a new earring back locking system to prevent accidental loss, and a swappable battery pack system so you don’t need to remove them to recharge. Thus, you can wear them 24/7 while sleeping, showering, and exercising, as well as going about your day-to-day activities. Each battery pack supports five-to-eight days of battery life. The Core is worn only on the left ear, while Lumia Earrings are sold in pairs.

Why track blood flow? Lumia notes that continuous tracking of this metric can help you gain better insight into what’s going on in your body throughout the day, explaining potential symptoms of lightheadedness, brain fog, or simply feeling drained. It could relate to hydration, for example, diet, posture, movement, or sleep. Lumia helps to connect the dots between what’s happening to your body and how you feel. You might notice, for example, that there are consequences to having a carb-heavy lunch, how you sit impacts your cognitive performance, or that morning exercise helps boost circulation for the remainder of the day.
