Nintendo has set a sale record with its new Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console, selling more than 3.5 million units worldwide in the first four days following the June 5, 2025 release. This makes it the fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever.
Nintendo Switch 2 boasts several improvements over the original console, including a larger screen that can display full 1,080p content (4K when connected to a compatible TV or monitor), faster processing with enhanced graphics and performance, redesigned magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers that can also function as a mouse, a new GameChat feature for online gameplay using both voice and video (with a connected camera and membership), additional storage, and more.

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” says Nintendo of America President and COO Doug Bowser. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 system launched alongside Mario Kart World. Featuring a series-first interconnected world where you can drive virtually anywhere (including across cities, plains, a desert and even the ocean), Mario Kart World includes dynamic weather conditions, new game modes, and up to 24 drivers at once, which is the most in series history.
Next month, a new 3D platforming game starring Donkey Kong will make its debut exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Donkey Kong Bananza will let players smash and bash their way through a wild, mayhem-packed action adventure. The game launches on July 17, 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2 is now available for an MSRP of $630 and is also available as a bundle with a digital download of the full Mario Kart World game for $700.
