Public Mobile Intros 5G Service, Backed by Telus

Public Mobile is introducing its first 5G subscription service in Canada, backed by the Telus network.

With the service options, customers can choose the speed plan and premium features they want, and that fit in their budget, and put it on a recurring monthly or 90-day subscription payment plan. There are no overage fees, credit checks, or confusing contracts.

Activations can be done online using an eSIM, while you can also manage the account 24/7 via the web or Public Mobile app and contact digital support. There are also rewards with Public Points.

The 5G plans feature unlimited data. For $80/mo., for example, you’ll get 50GB of data at 5G speeds of up to 250 Mbps, after which it’s reduced to a maximum of 512Kbps for unlimited data. The plan also includes unlimited Canada-wide minutes and messaging, and you collect $4/mo. in Public Points. If you commit to a 90-day subscription, this plan drops to $65/mo.

There’s also a $65/mo. plan ($55/mo. if you sign up for three months) that offers 25GB data at 5G speed up to 250Mbps (unlimited at a reduced speed), along with unlimited Canada-wide minutes and messaging and $3.25/mo. in Public Points. Public Mobile continues to offer 4G plans for those who prefer them. Pricing for 4G plans ranges from $39 to $50/mo.

Public Mobile offers various add-ons as well, including long-distance calling to the U.S. and internationally, including buckets for India, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.
