Totem Acoustic Introduces the LOON 2-Way Monitor

What’s more Canadian than the cry of a Loon on a still summer’s night on a cottage lake? That became the inspiration behind Totem Acoustic’s latest creation called the LOON monitor.

“The new Totem LOON, as the namesake implies” explains Lucy Lentini, Vice President, Totem Acoustic, “has an entrancing, hypnotic and mystical ability to transmit sound in a fluid and completely engaging manner, transferring not only sound but a mysterious, sonic energy that endlessly engages transferring deep emotion, speed and balance” added Lentini..

For nearly four decades, Totem Acoustic has been a world leader in combining the utmost in spatial restitution but augmented via a smaller chassis design. Each ported 2-way designed speaker weighs a modest 8.5 lbs in a 10.75”H x 6”W x 8”D housing, (8.375” with the included matching magnetic grills), yet features a 1” laser etched textile soft dome tweeter and 5.75” woofer with copper clad voice coil.

The LOON will be available in three finishes Black Ash, a new Black Walnut and in a Satin White

The speaker has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, a sensitivity of 87dB @ 1watt and a crossover frequency of 2.5kHz and while an excellent option for use as 2-way monitors in a stand-alone 2-channel system, Totem has designed the LOON to be equally adapt as rear speakers for the recently launched Bison series.

Vince Bruzzese, President, Totem Acoustics, explains “the LOON monitor offers a very uncomplicated placement, virtually a Plug n’ Play loudspeaker that yields great sonics even when listening from over 45 degrees off-axis. Bass is deep and tight, yet not exaggerated, with an excellent impact all from a very small cabinet. Furthermore, there is absolutely no sense of “boxiness” in the sound, and voices never sound congested” added Bruzzese.

“The LOON produces a full bandwidth of sound even at low volume, all the while with astonishing imaging. Raising the volume never impacts the accurate scale of the music. This profoundly musical transducer sounds fabulous with all genres of music and offers an exceptional foundation for classical music.

The Totem LOON monitor will make its debut at the Axpona Audio Show in Chicago from April 12 to 14.  The LOON will be available in Black Ash, a new Black Walnut and in a Satin White with an MSRP of US$1,299 and CDN$1,500 and are shipping now.
