Withings ScanWatch Nova Offers On-Demand ECG & More

Following up the launch of the ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Light, Withings is now introducing its latest smartwatch in the line, the ScanWatch Nova. This premium hybrid smartwatch tracks on-demand ECG, Sp02, body temperature, activity, and in-depth sleep analysis.

ScanWatch Nova performs an on-demand medical-grade electrocardiogram to detect potential heart anomalies at any time, such as atrial fibrillation, which is one of the most prevalent forms of arrhythmias characterized by irregular heart rhythms. Nearly two million signs of AFib have been identified on ScanWatch since 2020, says Withings. In 30 seconds, through two built-in electrodes, you can take a measurement by touching the bezel with the hand. This launches the ECG reading and you can review live results on the Withings app.

You’ll also get baseline fluctuations of day and night body temperature, which may indicate the onset of an illness or other health condition. This also helps boost the ability to manage performance and recovery through workout temperature variation zones. The TempTech24/7 module technology combines miniaturized heat flux sensors (measuring energy transit) with a high-accuracy temperature sensor (measuring ambient and skin temperature), alongside heart rate and accelerometer input calibrations to deliver body temperature variation assessment.

There’s also on-demand blood oxygen (SpO2), plus track overnight breathing disturbances as well as average blood oxygen during sleep. If the  SpO2 value is below 90%, that could be a sign of poor blood oxygenation, also called hypoxia.

In addition to basic sleep tracking, you also get a Sleep Quality Score and deep dive into sleep metrics (phases, depth, duration, interruptions) with information on how to improve.

As a standard smartwatch for fitness, ScanWatch Nova can track parameters such as steps, calories, elevation, workout routes (via in-app connected GPS). It can automatically recognize more than 40 daily activities such as walking, running, swimming, and cycling. In addition, it offers Fitness Level assessments through estimation of VO2 Max, which measures the heart and muscle’s ability to convert oxygen into energy during physical exercise.

It comes with both a stylish Oyster metal wristband as well as an FKM wristband for more comfort during training. The watch itself includes a ceramic and stainless-steel rotating bezel with laser engraved markings that incorporate the standard codes of diving practice. It also features full Luminova hollow watch hands, indicators, and thick raised indices that allow it to be used in low light. Along with a sunray dial, the case is mirror-polished and made of stainless steel. The diver-inspired watch is water resistant at 10 ATM and protected by a sapphire glass with anti-reflection coating. Notifications are displayed on the high resolution OLED grayscale screen that Withings says is easy to read.

The battery life is arguably one of the more impressive features of the ScanWatch Nova: it can run for up to 30 days per charge and fully recharges via the included USB-C cable in two hours. It runs on the proprietary HealthSense operating system combined with MultiWave PPG. Connect it to the Withings app, which can be used to customize the screen with the information that’s most important to you. Set notification preferences for favourite apps as well, and set a long press on the dual to trigger a specific feature. A quick look option allows for activating the watch display as soon as your wrist is lifted. The app also provides personalized insights, trends, and recommendations.

“ScanWatch Nova offers advanced health-tracking capabilities and is packed full of technology to make continuous measurements autonomous and effortless with an extraordinary 30-day battery,” says Etienne Trégaro, Product Manager at Withings. “The splendid timepiece imperceptibly embeds a powerful health scan, with all the cutting-edge innovations to enhance your health, wrapped in a stylish aesthetic inspired by the timeless tradition of diver-style watchmaking.”

“With ScanWatch Nova, we have created an extraordinary heart health hybrid smartwatch that is as clinically powerful as it is beautiful,” adds Eric Carreel, Founder and President of Withings. “By seamlessly merging luxury design with the power of health technology, peoples’ health journeys can now be as stunning as they are effective. It brings amazing, concrete health benefits such as a medical grade ECG and aesthetic allure in one astonishing package.”

The Withings ScanWatch Nova is now available directly through Withings for US$599.95 and will be available through retail partners in February 2024. As noted, it comes with an Oyster bracelet that tapers from 20mm to 18mm for a secure, comfortable fit. It is available in blue, green, and black.
