Beyerdynamic has introduced its new DT 990 Pro X open-back studio headphones, which boast a detachable cable and next-gen driver system.
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro X come with a STELLAR.45 driver system engineered in Germany with a wide frequency range of 5 – 40,000 Hz and lower impedance rating that allows for better performance across a wide range of devices. A reimagined version of the headphones that have been around since the 1980s, they are designed for critical listening and editing thanks to the expansive soundstage. They are an ideal complement to studio monitors, says the company, offering precision and clarity that help studio professionals identify the finest sonic details and errors in their mix.

“Most at-home producers have studio monitors that they use to listen back to their mixes,” explains Kevin Nietsch, Product Manager at beyerdynamic. “With the DT 990 PRO X, we wanted to create a tool that modern studio professionals didn’t already have. The DT 990 PRO X headphones are engineered to magnify subtle mix imperfections that might otherwise go unnoticed, a true companion for studio monitors.”
They feature a 48-ohm impedance, making it easy to use across a variety of playback devices, from professional audio interfaces to portable setups. The detachable three-metre mini-XLR to 3.5mm cable (with a 6.3mm adapter included) offers flexibility for connecting.

Constructed with ultra-soft velour ear cushions and an ergonomically padded headband designed to alleviate pressure on the top of the head, the headphones are built with serviceable components.
The beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X studio headphones are now available for US$199. Each pair includes a three-metre Mini-XLR to 3.5mm jack cable, a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, and a drawstring carry bag.
