During the annual Erikson Consumer Dealer show, held for a second year at the distributor’s West Montreal headquarters, JBL has once again raised the bar in their premium audio division by announcing three brand-new additions to its famed Summit Series: the Summit AMA, Summit Pumori, and Summit Makalu.

These next-generation speakers promise immersive listening experiences, inspired not only by the technical prowess of the previous Everest and K2 models launched in the 1980s, but also by the majestic spirit of Himalayan mountain ranges.
The Summit Series cabinets are crafted from premium hardwoods and feature precision-milled panels for enhanced acoustic performance. Each speaker boasts hand-applied finishes, ranging from rich, matte walnut to elegant gloss black. Distinctive brushed aluminium accents and subtle JBL branding add a touch of sophistication, while the cabinets’ internal bracing reduces vibration and resonance, further elevating sound clarity. A subtle but clever detail includes an etched visual of the mountain that inspires each speaker.

For decades, JBL’s Summit Everest and K2 speakers have stood as benchmarks of sonic performance. The new Summit Series builds directly upon this legacy, blending refined aesthetics, advanced acoustics, and adventurous inspiration to deliver a trio of speakers that are as visually striking as they are audibly outstanding.
Summit AMA: Inspired by Ama Dablam’s Iconic Silhouette

The Summit AMA takes cues from the Ama Dablam, often called the “Matterhorn of the Himalayas.” Its elegant, tapered design echoes the mountain’s dramatic ridges, while the speaker itself delivers rich, balanced sound. At the heart of Summit Ama’s audio performance is an 8-inch (200mm) cast-frame woofer, featuring a triple-layer Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite Cone (HC4). This innovative cone blends carbon-fibre and pure pulp on the front and back, with a closed-cell foam core in between, resulting in optimal rigidity, mass, and structure for powerful output, minimal distortion, and exceptional power handling.
The Summit AMA feature, specially engineered JBL | IsoAcoustic® isolation feet, which counteract vibrations generated by the speaker’s drivers and effectively decouple the loudspeaker from the floor. This isolation enhances bass precision, sharpens the soundstage, and delivers clearer imaging.
A 1-inch titanium dome tweeter delivers crisp highs and an expansive soundstage. The AMA includes bi-wiring and bi-amping capability, high-grade binding posts, and a magnetic grille for ease of use. The speaker, like all in the series, is finished in premium walnut or gloss black with brushed aluminium accents for a modern aesthetic.

Summit Pumori: Everest’s closest neighbour

Drawing inspiration from Pumori, one of Mount Everest’s closest neighbours, this speaker sports a robust 10-inch driver, advanced crossovers, and JBL’s signature compression horn. The Summit Pumori is engineered to deliver high-fidelity performance featuring a dual 6.5-inch composite woofer array for extended bass response, a dedicated 4-inch midrange driver, and a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter for crisp highs. The speaker supports bi-wiring and bi-amping options and includes advanced crossover networks for seamless frequency integration. High-quality binding posts and magnetic grille attachments complement the robust cabinet design, making the Pumori also suitable for both stereo and home theatre applications.

Summit Makalu: Flagship Himalayan Inspiration

Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world, inspires JBL’s most technologically ambitious new speaker to date The Summit Makalu offers a three-way configuration, ultra-lightweight Kevlar cones, and room calibration technology, ensuring pristine sound no matter your environment. Styled with angular contours reminiscent of Makalu’s imposing peaks, the Summit Makalu stands as the flagship of the series, featuring an imposing three-way floor standing design with dual 12-inch composite woofers for powerful, extended bass and a dedicated 5-inch midrange driver for detailed vocals and instrumentals. At the top end, a 1.5-inch titanium compression driver pairs with JBL’s advanced “waveguide” for remarkable clarity and dispersion. The Makalu supports bi-amping and bi-wiring and includes premium gold-plated binding posts for maximum signal integrity. High-mass internal bracing and vibration-damping feet ensure the speaker remains stable, even at high volumes, while magnetic grilles and a choice of luxury finishes round out its premium appeal.

With the launch of the Summit AMA, Pumori, and Makalu, JBL continues the tradition of blending cutting-edge technology with iconic design and adventure. Each new speaker pays tribute to a Himalayan landmark. All three speakers in the Summit Series are exclusively available through Erikson Consumer.
