Canadian Brand Colquhoun Audio Labs Acquires Magnum Dynalab

Dwight, ON-based Colquhoun Audio Laboratories Limited (CALL), a manufacturer of Canada-made high-performance audio electronics and loudspeakers, has announced the acquisition of another Canadian audio brand, Magnum Dynalab. The acquisition was completed on March 31, 2023.

CALL operates Axiom Audio loudspeakers, Bryston LTD premium audio electronics and loudspeakers, and now, Magnum Dynalab AM/FM tuners and vacuum tube-based audio electronics. All manufacturing, sales, and service for the Magnum Dynalab brand will now be integrated into existing CALL operations along with Axiom Audio and Bryston, LTD in Dwight, ON, a village located in the Lake of Bays township north of the city in “cottage country” Muskoka.

CALL was founded in 1980 by Ian Colquhoun, a renowned researcher in the field of acoustics. He was heavily influenced by the research conducted at the National Research Council (NRC) laboratory in Ottawa, under the direction of Dr. Floyd Toole.

“We are excited to add Magnum Dynalab’s legendary FM tuners and vacuum tube electronics to our product mix, all supported under one roof by our design, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities as well as our award-winning customer service,” says CALL Founder and CEO Ian Colquhoun.

Founded in 1984, Magnum Dynalab has focused on manufacturing FM tuner products since the beginning. The company’s first FM tuner, the FT 101, was launched in 1985 to glowing reviews. To enhance the performance of analog tuners, Magnum Dynalab also began producing an assortment of both directional and omni-directional FM antennas. Since that time, the company has introduced 15 analog FM tuners, including the Triode Series that incorporates vacuum tube technology into the audio output stage.

Today, the newest line of Magnum Dynalab tuners, called the Dynamyte Series, features an advanced HD Music Streamer. Jim Richards acquired the company in 2014 and served as President and COO until the recent acquisition by Colquhoun Audio Labs.

Magnum Dynalab staff will be onsite in CALL’s Dwight factory to assist with the transition.
