The age of COVID made grocery deliveries more common for many households and individuals who had never used the service before, and some who might never have otherwise. Now with the worst of the virus hopefully behind us, some of the trends that emerged during the height of it, like grocery deliveries, continue. And DoorDash and Loblaw are looking to keep the momentum going with a new service called PC Express Rapid Delivery, which will be offered in addition to its existing PC Express service and curbside pick-up.
With PC Express Rapid Delivery, customers can order items from a nearby Loblaw Companies retail or grocery store right from the DoorDash Marketplace app. Once ordered, items will arrive in 30 minutes or less (nor “or it’s free” policy, however, like what you might have come to expect with that popular pizza place.)
The service will launch this August in major cities across Canada, including Vancouver, the Greater Toronto Area, Calgary, and Kitchener, and will include grocery and convenience store items.
“Customers have come to expect the very best online grocery shopping experience from us, whether they choose curb-side pickup or delivery to their door,” says Lauren Steinberg, Senior Vice President, Loblaw Digital. “Collaborating with DoorDash on rapid delivery services enables us to enhance our already existing PC Express offering by adding 30-minutes-or-less delivery to meet customers’ growing interest in on-demand delivery options.”
“Our goal is to bring convenience to customers in Canada, with the selection and speed they want,” adds Shilpa Arora, General Manager, DoorDash Canada. “Through this collaboration with Loblaw, we are addressing consumers’ need to ‘get it now,’ in addition to our existing Marketplace and Drive channels and furthering the value we bring to consumers and partners alike.”
To have items delivered, visit the DoorDash Marketplace app (an account is required), and select “PC Express” Rapid Delivery. You can also order through Rapid Delivery at PCExpress.ca.
Additionally, starting in July, customers will be able to place same-day delivery orders from the DoorDash Marketplace app from favourite Loblaw Companies retail stores, including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, Atlantic Superstore, Provigo, Maxi, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Pharmaprix. DoorDash will also power same-day delivery for grocery and convenience items from all Loblaw banner stores on Loblaw’s own pcexpress.ca through DoorDash Drive, DoorDash’s fulfilment platform that powers direct delivery to customers for any business.
Rapid Retail Canada, Inc., a DoorDash subsidiary, will be the retailer operating under the PC Express Rapid Delivery brand.
