Many of you (myself included) might use ExpressVPN on your computer and mobile devices in order to protect your browsing (and perhaps even mask your location to access things like streaming services when you’re outside of Canada). The company’s first Wi-Fi 6 router with built-in VPN protection, the ExpressVPN Aircove, is now available in Canada.
Initially launched in the U.S. in 2022, the ExpressVPN Aircove is a Wi-Fi 6 router that comes with built-in VPN by default along with a user interface that offers protection for the whole family. Built and designed by the same team of security experts that create ExpressVPN’s VPN software, the latest upgrade is an auto-update function for enhanced security protection.
Aircove is simple to set up and will encrypt every connected device in the home, including smart TVs, voice assistants, and other IoT devices, even ones not usually compatible with VPN software, says the company. There are also Device Groups you can set up to drag and drop devices into up to five groups, each of which gets its own unique VPN location.
There’s no improved localization for non-English languages, including French, along with better speed and security with the latest generation product.
Advanced protection in the ExpressVPN Alcove Wi-Fi 6 router includes Threat Manager, which prevents all devices from communicating with a set of third parties known to track activity or engage in malicious behaviour. There’s also ad blocker, which will prevent any content identified as advertising from displaying during browsing, and parental controls to block adult sites and the internet at certain times).
ExpressVPN has also announced an upgrade to the VPN protocol Lightway by implementing DTLS 1.3, an advanced level of security and performance that’s now available to Aircove. With this, you can benefit from advanced and robust Wi-Fi security standards along with faster speeds. Aircove permits speeds up to 1,200 Mbps (600 Mbps for 2.4GHz and 1,200 Mbps for 5GHz). It covers homes up to 150 square meters or 1,600 square feet.
The ExpressVPN Aircover package includes the router with a WAN Ethernet port, four LAN Ethernet ports, an LED, reset button, and 12V/1.5A DC input. There’s a quad-core 64-bit processor @1.2GHz and DDR3L 512MB / NAND-FLASH 128MB.
Get the ExpressVPN Aircove Wi-Fi 6 router for about $256 in Canada. It also comes with a 30-day free trial for new ExpressVPN users.
