Google AI Mode

Google AI Mode is Now in Canada

Google has rolled out AI Mode in Google Search for users in Canada. This powerful AI search experience includes more advanced reasoning and multimodality, with the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web.

AI Mode is designed to better understand what you’re asking about and provide more insightful help. It’s ideal for multi-part questions, like when you’re comparing two products, planning a trip, asking complex how-tos, or trying to learn more about a topic. Using a custom version of the Gemini 2.5 model, it lets you ask nuanced questions that would have previously required multiple searches. According to Google, early users of AI Mode are asking questions that are two or three times the length of traditional search queries.

For example, you can ask something like “I’m looking to understand different coffee brewing methods. Make a table comparing the differences in taste, ease of use, and equipment needed” and the search will provide this information. Or you can ask “I want to learn more about the new seven wonders of the world. What’s the significance of each, and where are they located?”

Behind the scenes, AI Mode uses a query fan-out technique, breaking down the question into subtopics and issuing a multitude of queries simultaneously on your behalf. Since it’s multimodal, you can ask questions in a way that feels natural as well, with text, voice, or even your camera. Tap the microphone to speak, snap a photo or upload an image to ask a question, and it can understand and reply just the same.

Google says that while it aims to show AI-powered responses as much as possible, in cases where there isn’t high confidence in an answer, you will see a set of web search results instead.

AI Mode is rolling out in English in Canada today. It’s visible as a tab on your Search results page, and in the Google app for Android and iOS. There are plans to make it available in more languages in the future.
