McIntosh states the DS200 has been designed for listeners who already have compatible power amplifiers and preamplifiers but are just missing the high-end streaming component to complete their audio systems.
Compatible with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Google Cast, the DS200 is equipped with two Wi-Fi antennas and one Bluetooth antenna for stable wireless connections, as well as an Ethernet port for wired connections. The device is also compatible with Google Assistant, allowing voice control for managing the audio setup.
The DS200 features the latest-generation Quad Balanced 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), delivering dynamic range and low distortion for sound reproduction. The DS200 also integrates seamlessly with the Roon music player, offering enhanced music experiences with rich metadata and certified streaming technology. It has received Roon Tested certification as it has been profiled by Roon to ensure simple setup and effortless daily use.
In addition to streaming capabilities, the DS200 provides eight digital audio inputs, supporting high-resolution digital audio playback, including DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz via USB, and 24-bit/192kHz via coax and optical inputs. The HDMI (ARC) input transforms TV and movie audio experiences beyond the capabilities of traditional TV speakers and soundbars, converting Dolby and DTS multi-channel formats into two-channel audio for playback.
The DS200 offers both balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, facilitating seamless integration with any existing audio system. It is factory-set in fixed output mode, with an option to switch to variable output mode for direct connection to a power amplifier, allowing the DS200 to control volume in a fully digital audio setup.
The DS200 Streaming DAC embodies McIntosh’s familiar design, featuring a black glass front faceplate, rotary control knobs, an illuminated logo, and custom machined aluminum end caps. Additional features include a Data IN port, Power Control ports, and an RS232 Control port, allowing seamless integration with other McIntosh components and advanced installations. A remote control is included for added convenience.
