Ring says its new Video Doorbell Wired is the company’s smallest doorbell yet, boasting a compact design while still enabling features like advanced motion detection, two-way talk, HD video, live view, customizable privacy zones, and more.
The Video Doorbell Wired, which Ring founder and Chief Inventor Jamie Siminoff calls a “great and affordable option for those just getting started or looking to expand their Rings of security,” is easy-to-use. It connects to existing doorbell wiring and comes standard with 1,080p HD video with night vision and two-way audio with noise cancellation so you can both see and speak to visits from anywhere.
Customizable Motion Zones allow customers to create specific zones to trigger alerts; Privacy Zones can be set to eliminate areas a homeowner does not want to monitor. With those zones set, Advanced Motion Detection activates recording when movement is detected within a certain distance of Video Doorbell Wired, sending an alert to the Ring app.
Ring Protect Plan subscribers (starting at $5/mo. per device) can access additional features like colour Pre-Roll, a six-second video preview that shows what triggered a motion alert at the door. Other features include People Only Mode, a refined motion alert sent only when human beings are detected, and Rich Notifications, which show a snapshot preview of what’s happening in real time before opening the Ring app.
Once installed, you can control the experience using the Ring app. Set notification preferences, create Customizable Motion and Privacy Zones, and connect other Ring cameras, Ring Chimes, Ring Alarm, and Ring Smart Lights to create an integrated whole-home security system.
Video Doorbell Wired is also compatible with Alexa: say “Alexa, show me the front door,” to see Live View on your Alexa device or say “Alexa, talk to the front door” to begin speaking with whoever is at the door.
The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is available now for pre-order in Canada for $80 and will begin shipping on February 24, 2021.
