Samsung held its annual Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday where the company introduced seven new devices: the Galaxy Note20 5G and Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G smartphones, the Tab S7 and Tab S7+ tablets, the Galaxy Watch3 smartwatch, the Galaxy Buds Live true wireless earbuds, and the Galaxy Z Fold2 foldable smartphone.
Galaxy Note20 and Note 20 Ultra 5G
The Galaxy Note20 5G and Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G both come with the new S Pen and Samsung Notes feature along with deeper integration with Microsoft so they work more seamlessly with Windows PCs.
The more precise S Pen offers five new Anywhere actions for touchless navigation, including doing things like returning to the home screen or taking a screenshot. Samsung Notes features auto-save and syncing capabilities, so you can pick up where you left off as you move from device to device. Samsung Notes straightens quick handwritten thoughts into legible penmanship. You can also annotate and highlight PDFs in the Samsung Notes app. Record audio as you jot down ideas, and tap a word in your notes to go to that moment in the recording. Keep it all organized with new, intuitive folder management.
The Microsoft Your Phone app with Link to Windows integration enables easy access mobile apps directly from a Windows 10 PC, so you can do things like send messages, manage notifications, sync photos, and make and receive calls from your Windows 10 PC. Add your favourite mobile apps to your Taskbar or Start menu so you don’t have to search your phone for favourite social media apps and Gallery. Later this year, you will have the ability to run multiple apps side by side on a Windows 10 PC.
Beginning September 15, 2020, play over 100 Xbox games on your phone or tablet, directly from the cloud (beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The Galaxy Note20 Series 5G gaming experience is further enhanced with its AI game booster and Bluetooth audio response optimization, and 240Hz touch latency on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G.
With 21:9 aspect ratio and 24fps recording, the 8K camera on the Galaxy Note20 Series 5G now gives you ultra-high resolution and a professional quality video experience. Use powerful Pro Video mode with pro-grade focus, audio, exposure, lighting, zoom speed control, and 120fps shooting at FHD options for cinematic-style videos. Pro lenses and advanced Space Zoom allow you to photograph scenes in gorgeous detail, says Samsung. You can also control audio sources on the Galaxy Note20 Series 5G, adjusting and selecting between onboard mics or external sources, so the sound you want comes through clearly.
For the first time with Samsung DeX, wirelessly connect your Galaxy Note20 5G or Note20 Ultra 5G to a compatible Smart TV when you need a bigger screen. Manage two screens simultaneously, so you can text with your friends while watching a video on a compatible Smart TV.
Galaxy Note20 Series 5G is built with the fastest processor of all Galaxy smartphones. Both Galaxy Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G introduce new Mystic colours – soft neutral tones with a brand new, textured haze effect.
For the first time in the Note series, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G offers the Dynamic 2X display and 120Hz refresh rate. It also sports an all-day intelligent battery and Super Fast Charging capabilities.
Galaxy Note20 Series 5G automatically searches and recommends high speed networks and can access Wi-Fi 6 networks with optimized latency for various streaming services.
For the first time on a Note device, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology delivers an intuitive experience that makes sharing photos and videos with loved ones simple and quick. This advanced directional and spatial awareness technology allows you to simply point your Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G to another UWB-enabled Galaxy device and the Nearby Share feature will automatically identify the people you’re facing at the top of your sharing panel.
Available for pre-order now across major Canadian carriers and retail partners, as well as at Samsung Experience Stores or through Samsung.com/ca, the phones will be available for purchase as of August 21, 2020. Galaxy Watch3
As the latest generation model in Samsung’s smartwatch family, the Galaxy Watch3 is made from premium materials including stainless steel and genuine leather and features a slimmed-down version of the popular rotating bezel.
Offering what Samsung calls its “most expansive wellness suite yet,” the device has advanced sensor technology, integrated heart rate sensor, and Fall Detection that lets you send an SOS message to emergency contacts in the event of an accident. Samsung Health provides more than 120 different home training programs so you can track your workout progress on your watch.
The Watch3 is available in 45mm (Mystic Black, Mystic Silver) and 41mm (Mystic Bronze, Mystic Silver) with pricing starting at $550 for the 41mm and $600 for the 45mm. Samsung is also offering a gift with purchase: those who buy the new watch on the website between August 5 and September 4 will receive a Duo Wireless Charger Pad.
Galaxy Buds Live
For personal listening, the new Galaxy Buds Live combine AKG sound with a 12mm speaker and bass duct that represents the biggest speaker yet in a pair of Galaxy Buds.
They include three microphones and a Voice Pickup Unit that senses when your jaw is moving and converts the data into voice signals to deliver enhanced sound quality, says Samsung. The earbuds also feature Active Noise Cancellation.
They will also come in Mystic Bronze, Mystic White, and Mystic Black, and are available now online and in stores on August 21 for $250, available with a free Wireless Charger Pad as well from August 5 through to September 4 through an e-voucher given when purchased in Samsung Experience Stores and authorized retailers.
Galaxy Z Fold2
Finally, Samsung revealed the latest version of its foldable phone, which boasts new upgrades and features based on customer feedback. It has a pair of edge-to-edge nearly bezel-less Infinity-O displays with a cover screen that is 6.2″ in size and the large main screen that is 7.6″, both larger than the previous-generation model. The phone comes in Mystic Black or Mystic Bronze.
Additional Incentives
Further incentivizing Galaxy owners to upgrade and new customers to come on board, Samsung will be offering e-vouchers to the first 15,000 Canadian customers to buy the Galaxy Note20 Series 5G between August 5 and September 4 from a Samsung Experience Store and other partner locations. The voucher, redeemable online at the Samsung website, will be for the choice of an Xbox Game Pass Bundle, Galaxy Buds Live (with the Note20 Ultra 5G), or Galaxy Buds+ (with the Galaxy Note20 5G).
In retail stores, the first 3,300 Canadian customers to purchase the Galaxy Buds Live between August 5 and September 4 will receive an e-voucher for a Wireless Charger Pad.
