Sonos launched the Roam, its first portable Bluetooth speaker three years ago. It was followed up by the Sonos Roam SL, a more affordable option that does away with the built-in mic. Now, Sonos has launched the second-generation of the original, the Sonos Roam 2, which employs a revamped design with easier-to-use controls and quicker set-up process.
The Sonos Roam 2 offers the same sound and bass but now has a refreshed design that includes a monochromatic logo and separate power and Bluetooth buttons. It can be more easily connected to your mobile device or other audio source via Bluetooth, right out of the box. You can also set it up on a Wi-Fi network at home, integrating it within a larger Sonos system that includes other Sonos speakers.
As with the original, the speaker features automatic Trueplay so it is tuned to your environment, with the feature available both when you’re connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It also boasts the same up to 10 hours of continuous playback per charge along with the same IP67 water- and dust-resistant rating.
Available in Olive, Sunset, Wave, Black, and White, it is available now for $229 in Canada, $10 more than the original speaker’s launch price. The upgrades appear to be in design and usability alone, so there’s likely no major reason to upgrade if you already own the original Sonos Roam. But for those buying new, the Sonos Roam 2 will offer a better experience overall, including easier connectivity to all your Bluetooth devices with a dedicated button
