Sweekar is a new AI pocket pet inspired by the Tamagotchi, but with a modern, high-tech, AI twist. It hatches from a physical egg, grows through four life stages, and develops a personality shaped by the relationship you build with it. Yes, really.
From the moment it hatches, Sweekar changes. Its appearance, voice, and behaviour all shift as it progresses from Egg to Baby, Teen, and Adult. This is shaped by how you care for it, talk to it, and carry it through your day. Unlike the actual egg you might have carried around in school that didn’t tell on you that you left it in a drawer in your room while you went to a part, Sweekar recognizes your voice, and it remembers what you tell it.
How does it work? Millimeter-wave radar detects when it is picked up; it knows how long you’ve been away and responds accordingly. There’s also head-patting recognition and facial expressions that shift with mood. It leverage hybrid stack Google Gemini Flash and ChatGPT-class models. It has 128 long-term memory slots on the free plan, unlimited on Pro. Once fully grown, it goes off on its own adventures and comes back with stories. It weighs 89 grams and fits in a pocket.
What makes Sweekar so interesting is that no two ones are alike: it’s entirely shaped by you and its relationship with you. Is anyone getting Black Mirror “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” episode vibes? Sweekar grows based on interactions like feeding, talking, cleaning, and picking it up, each of which generates XP. When Sweekar levels up, it physically grows a few millimetres taller (driven by a precision stepper motor), plays a special evolution animation, and unlocks new behaviours, new language, and new personality dimensions.
When in the egg incubation mode, it’s 6.1cm tall. The egg cracks open and it becomes a baby at 6.5cm, a stage that goes from levels two through nine. This is when it requires a lot of care. It only speaks in pre-verbal sounds like “mmm,” “ooh,” and “wah.” It also begins to learn your voice at this time. Once in the teen stage, which is levels 10-19, it grows to 6.8cm and starts to be able to form words. This is when an NFC social bond unlocks for “friend” taps.
Finally, level 30 and up is when Sweekar becomes an adult at 7.1cm. At this point, it’s fully autonomous and can go on adventures on its own. It takes virtual jobs and comes back with stories about them. Once your Sweekar reaches this stage, it can’t die. Which means it can before this stage, so be mindful of that.
The memory lives in the cloud, visualized in the companion app as a scrapbook of your life together. Connectivity runs via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot, which means Sweekar can work virtually anywhere. It has a 730mAh battery and can run for up to eight hours when inactive or two hours while active. It comes with yellow, blue, and purple interchangeable silicone shells, six outfit packs, and an open-source 3D-printable model for DIY customization. There’s also a USB-C cable, charging base, and manual.
Who would want a Sweekar? The company says it’s a nostalgia play, but it’s also a practical option for those who aren’t able to have real pets due to building rules, schedule, travel, or allergies, for example. It may also provide a sense of safety for some as a virtual companion.
