Uber has partnered with Turo, the peer-to-peer car sharing service that many call the AirBnb of car rentals, to offer Uber customers Turo rentals through its app. The multi-year partnership spans several key global markets.
Uber will bring Turo’s selection of over 1,600 makes and models to the Uber Rent platform, beginning in early 2025. The partnership aims to unlock more opportunities for Turo hosts while enabling millions of Uber customers in Canada, the U.S., UK, Australia, and France to check out some of the most exciting new vehicles, or even old reliable ones for a family road trip.
“Our partnership with Uber unlocks a huge opportunity to utilize the Uber Rent platform to turbocharge growth and further cement our position as the world’s largest peer-to-peer car sharing platform,” says Turo Vice President, Business Development, Andro Vrdoljak. “By joining forces with Uber, Turo is well positioned to penetrate a massive $150 billion-plus total addressable market.”
“We see flexible access to shared vehicles as a critical part of the future of transportation – and partnerships such as this with Turo are a key part of getting there while continuing to offer the best experience for riders,” adds Niraj Patel, Global Head of Consumer Vehicles at Uber. “By working together, we can further our shared goals of reducing private car ownership and putting the cars that are on the road to better use, all while giving Uber Rent customers more choice to pick the ideal car for their next errand or weekend getaway.”
With Turbo, you can rent a vehicle from a private owner, which includes a network of trusted hosts. This might be to drive yourself home from the airport, to use in a foreign city, province, or country, take on a road trip, or even test out a vehicle you’re considering purchasing. Get someone a one-week rental with a high-end car as a gift or get an oversized van for a multi-family trip.
I tried Turo for a few days when my car was in for service, and I found the service easy to use, the entire experience pleasurable from start to finish. Read my review for tips on getting the most out of Turo.
