Bell Launches Hardware-Free Fibe TV

Further to its announcement in the Fall that it would be phasing out set-top box hardware, Bell has officially launched hardware-free Fibe TV, which allows customers in Ontario and Quebec to stream live and on-demand Fibe TV without the need for a set-top box.

Hardware-free Fibe Tv works through compatible smart TVs and streaming devices you already own without the need to connect additional cords or boxes. Bell says this lends itself to easier access and faster set-up, as well as more flexibility. All you need to do to get started once you have a subscription is download the app and start watching.

The Fibe TV app is now available on more devices, including compatible Samsung, LG, and Roku smart TVs, as well as a whole host of other compatible devices, ranging from Apple TV to Amazon Fire TVs, Android TVs, and web browsers.

“At Bell, we’re focused on making life simpler,” says Blaik Kirby, Group President, Consumer and Small Business, Bell. “By eliminating the set-top box and bringing Fibe TV directly to the smart TVs and streaming devices our customers already own, we’re providing the same great experience without the hassle.”

“Expanding Fibe TV to LG webOS smart TVs builds on our long-standing partnership with Bell and reflects our shared commitment to delivering more choice, convenience, and flexibility to Canadian viewers,” adds Matthew Durgin, Vice President, Content and Services, LG Electronics North America. “With Fibe TV now available directly on the LG home screen, customers can enjoy faster, more intuitive access to the content they love through our webOS platform and Magic Remote. Together with Bell, we’re strengthening the content ecosystem and making premium entertainment even easier to discover and enjoy.”

“Our number one goal is always to give our customers the best platform experience possible,” chimes in Mary-Anne Taylor, Head of Content Distribution, Roku Canada. “They’ve been asking for Fibe TV, and we listened. We can’t wait for our users to experience all that Fibe TV has to offer.”

Combined with Bell Internet, existing customers will get the same Fibe TV experience and navigation they have become accustomed to using, along with cloud PVR, restart, and TVOD purchasing. If you prefer or require a traditional set-top box, Bell continues to provide hardware options as needed.
