Amazon Brings Alexa-Powered Tablets to Market

Amazon is introducing its new Alexa Tablets, a new line of tablets with Alexa+ at the center of the experience alongside access to the Google Play Store. There are three models in the line, the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8. Joining the line is also a new kids’ tablet.

All three tablets have an aluminum unibody design with high-res displays and powerful processors. Running Android, you can access favourite apps from the Google Play Store. This ranges from entertainment like YouTube and Netflix to productivity like Google Docs. There are also built-in Amazon apps, including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick, and Amazon Luna.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro measures just 6.5mm thin and its super lightweight. Equipped with a 12-inch 280ppi screen with 3:2 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate, you can choose either the standard display or Nanomatte display, developed in partnership with Corning, that includes precision-etched anti-glare technology to reduce screen glare.

Powered by a 4nm 8-core chip with up to 16GB of RAM, you get fast processing and graphics, with the ability to handle graphic-intensive games and multitasking, says Amazon. It also boasts quad Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, and 16 hours of video playback.

The tablet can double as an eReader, effectively making it a tablet and Kindle in one. Once you open a book in the Kindle app, notifications automatically go silent, blue light is reduced, and battery life stretches to up to 20 hours. You can choose from subtle warmth with natural colour, softened paper tone, or pure grayscale.

With Alexa+ at the heart of the experience, you can say “Alexa” at any time, or tap the “Ask Alexa” button to get help. It might be to answer a question, advise of a next step, control compatible smart home devices, or something else.

With On-Screen Intelligence, you can ask Alexa to look at what’s on screen for real-time, in-context help. Say “Alexa, which of these hikes is best for me?” while browsing trails and she’ll read the page, pull out the key details, and help you plan based on what she knows about you. Pull up a game schedule and ask her to add every date to your calendar and she’ll take care of it and flag the conflicts. On-Screen Intelligence can be enabled or disabled from Settings at any time, with a clear visual indicator whenever Alexa can see the screen.

Live sessions let you open a continuous, hands-free conversation without needing a wake word between questions, so it flows like a natural conversation. Tap the Alexa icon to start a live session and converse naturally back and forth. If you’ve enabled On-Screen Intelligence, you can also choose to share your screen, so Alexa follows along in real time as the context changes.

Every On-Screen Intelligence feature is off by default and requires a deliberate opt-in. You choose when Alexa listens, when she sees your screen, and what she remembers. A visual indicator is always present when Alexa is active, and you can disable any feature at any time.

A new Dynamic Tab on the home screen surfaces what’s useful, like content you’re in the middle of, recommendations, and helpful suggestions.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $749.99 in Canada ($799.99 for the Nanomatte version) and $499.99 in the U.S. (Nanomatte starts at $549.99) in Graphite, with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Accessories are available exclusively for this model, including the new Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Pen ($126,99 in Canada, $89.99 in the U.S.) and Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard ($208.99 in Canada, $149.99 in the U.S.) The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, magnetic docking, and wireless charging. The Nanomatte display creates a natural friction so it feels like pen on paper, not glass. Mark up a PDF, sketch an idea, or take handwritten notes, then switch to touch or trackpad when the task calls for it. With Kindle eBooks, you can highlight, underline, write notes, and markup pages directly with the Pro Pen. Annotations in your books also sync across Kindle apps on pen-supported devices.

The Pro Keyboard magnetically attaches to the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro with no Bluetooth pairing required. Open, resize, and work in multiple windows side by side. You can also switch easily between work and personal profiles. There’s also a range of protective folios.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 11

Launching alongside Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is the Alexa Tablet 12, which has an 11-inch, 2.5K display at 276 pixels per inch, 90Hz smooth scrolling, and a 16:10 cinematic aspect ratio. Designed for streaming, gaming, reading, and browsing, it comes with a thin aluminum unibody housing an eight-core processor with 8GB of RAM, dual Dolby Atmos speakers, and up to 15 hours of video playback. Alexa+ is built in with the same Dynamic Tab, voice and touch access, and personalized intelligence.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $449.99 in Canada and $329.99 in the U.S. and comes in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha, with 8GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 8

As the most portable model in the line, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 has an 8.7-inch display in an all-aluminum design that weighs just 329 grams. Measuring 7.95mm thin, it’s built to hold in one hand and carry anywhere, ideal for reading, browsing, and streaming on the go. It’s powered by an 8-core processor with Wi-Fi 6 and up to 14 hours of video playback, with the same Alexa+ intelligence built in.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $299.99 in Canada and $229.99 in the U.S. and comes in Graphite, Rosette, and Teal, with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
