Amazon has updated its popular Fire tablets with the new Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids, both affordable tablets that can be used for watching videos, playing games, and staying connected with others. The latter, of course, adds handy parental controls, access to Amazon Kids+ (one-year trial), and comes housed in a kid-proof case along with a two-year worry-free warranty. Both tablets offer double the RAM and 40% longer battery life than previous generation models
The Fire 7 tablet, which Amazon Devices’ Vice President Kevin Keith says is the company’s most popular tablet, offers 30% faster quad-core processing along with twice as much RAM. The extra battery power affords up to 10 hours of continuous browsing, video streaming, and more. It comes with a USB-C and 5W adapter in the box and boasts a 7″ touchscreen. It is also designed to be durable, able to stand up to drops, spill, and everyday wear and tear, says Amazon.
Users can watch or download movies from favourite streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix and download popular apps like TikTok. The tablet can also be used for video calls, social media, web browsing, eBooks, games, and more. It has Android Dark theme support so you can comfortably read Kindle eBooks both day and night, using the white-on-black mode if desired.
The tablet is optimized for video calls in landscape mode with 2MP front- and rear-facing cameras.
As part of Amazon’s commitment to The Climate Pledge, Fire 7 tablets are certified by Carbon Trust’s “Reducing CO2” Product Carbon Footprint Label, with a design that reflects de-carbonization efforts in line with The Climate Pledge. In addition, Fire 7 tablets feature 35% post-consumer recycled plastics, and 95% of its packaging is made of wood fiber-based materials from responsibly managed forests or recycled sources.
The Amazon Fire 7 starts at $80 and is available for pre-order, with shipping starting June 29. It comes in black and denim colors with coordinating covers that are $35 each.
The Amazon Fire 7 Kids, meanwhile, is designed for little ones aged 3 and up. With the one-year trial subscription to Amazon Kids+ ($4/mo. thereafter for Prime members should you choose to continue; it will auto-renew unless you cancel before the year), they can access fun and educational content that is also age appropriate. This includes content from sources like Sesame Street Workshop, PBS Kids, National Geographic, and Homer, as well as Amazon Kids+ Original series like Blippi’s Treehouse and Lego Monkie Kid. There are also games, including original mobile games like Super Spy Ryan and Do, Re, & Mi.
Parents and guardians can use the Amazon Parent Dashboard to easily manage screen time and set educational goals, age filters, and time limits for both weekdays and weekends.
The Fire 7 Kids tablet starts at $140 and comes in either 16GB or 32GB storage options. The refreshed design kid-proof case comes in blue or purple and has an adjustable kickstand that can also double as a handle.
Customers can use the same Amazon Kids+ subscription across any compatible device to access additional kid-friendly content, including Fire tablets, Fire TV, Kindle, Echo, iOS, Chromebook, or Android devices.
