Bluebird Music to Distribute Peak Consult Loudspeakers

Toronto-based Bluebird Music has been appointed as North American distributor of Peak Consult loudspeakers from Denmark. While well known in Europe, Peak Consult speakers has been missing from the North American market until now.

Peak Consult drivers are designed by Peak and purpose-built by Danish specialists and are combined with high-quality crossovers, binding posts, and stainless-steel feet. The cabinetry is elegant while inside every enclosure is a complex construction designed to provide a solid, non-resonant foundation for the drivers, and provide carefully controlled acoustical loading for them.

Cabinet walls are constructed of multiple layers of HDF, bonded together using non-hardening adhesives to dissipate vibrations and prevent resonances. The bonded panels range in thickness from 36 to 50 mm, depending upon the application.

Inside, wooden braces are optimally placed to increase rigidity and further reduce resonances, says the company. The cladding of the cabinet is solid hardwood that’s 14 mm thick, bonded to the structure with a stable industrial adhesive, and topped with acrylic panels and leather. Again, specially selected adhesives are used to adhere those materials to the exterior of the cabinet, further damping any possible resonances.

Peak loudspeakers are far heavier than most, ranging in weight from Sonora at 150 lbs. to a massive 496 lbs. for the flagship Dragon Legacy. Contributing to the heft, crossovers are sealed into a sand-filled enclosure within each speaker, to isolate the crossover from any external vibrations, as well as the rear radiation of the drivers. The drivers themselves have oversized magnet assemblies and ultra-rigid baskets and frames.

“I’ve always loved the look and sound of Peak Consult speakers,” said Jay Rein, President of Bluebird Music. “The purchase of the company by music-loving businessman Lennart Asbjørn and his partner Wilfried Ehrenholz, a founder of Dynaudio, ensured the company’s future growth, and makes Peak a company to watch, more than ever. We’re excited and proud to be representing Peak Consult and hope everyone can take a listen to these truly unique speakers.”

The Peak Consult line consists of five models: Sonora, a two-way floorstander with a passive radiator at US$34,900; Sinfonia, three-way floorstander at US$58,900; El Diablo, a three-way floorstander with two bass drivers at US$83,500; and the top of the line, Dragon Legacy, an ultra-high end three-way, five-driver MTM with two bass units and two midrange drivers at US$235,000. Tonos, a two-way three-driver centre speaker us US$25,000.
