Canton Debuts Reference GS Loudspeaker

The Canton Reference GS loudspeaker is a floorstanding speaker handcrafted with high-quality materials and a lustrous surface finish.

Standing 64 inches tall it’s 18 inches wide and 28 inches deep and weighs a whopping 340 lbs. Made of a combination of wood, metal, and lacquer, it’s as much a work of art as it is a home theatre staple.

Audibly, it incorporates 3-inch-thick round baffles manufactured on a special 5-axis CNC milling machine. The curved side panels, bases, and lids are made of multi-layer, 1-inch-thick wood laminate to ensure stability and a reduction in natural resonance behaviour.

A special computer-optimized reinforcement helps prevent internal standing waves with careful selection of the front shape, baffle and a precisely defined damping material made of a special fleece.

In addition, side panels of fine real wood veneer, which are firmly attached to the side panels, stiffens the enclosures further reducing unwanted resonance. The sweeping curves enable an acoustically optimized enclosure design, and the freedom from edges effectively prevents edge reflections, says Canton.

For the first time in Canton’s history, a diamond dome tweeter has been used. This cone material enhances tweeter reproduction with fine detail. The tweeter retains its accuracy and natural reproduction even at the highest volumes.

The Canton Reference GS is limited to 50 pairs worldwide. It is offered in one finish and sells in Canada for $79,000.
