New CEDIA Expo 2023 Conference Sessions Address Emerging Trends, In-Demand Skills

CEDIA Expo is fast approaching once again, scheduled to take place September 6-8 in Denver, and Emerald Expositions has revealed the conference program for this year. It includes more than 90 sessions, half of which are new.

The event, which caters to integrated residential systems technology and solutions providers, focuses its sessions on helping integrators strengthen business practices and for installers to build upon their technical skills, particularly when it comes to emerging trends.

“The pace of change is accelerating,” says Mandy Beckner, Vice President of Education and Training for CEDIA. “This year’s conference program is designed to prepare business owners and technical professionals to navigate the shifting landscape. Our world-class instructors will tackle hot topics ranging from network security and artificial intelligence to business succession planning and dealing with a recession.”

For business leaders, there is an expanded track for business and project management topics. There’s a session, for example, on compensation best practices and maximizing profitability from Navigate Consulting’s Brad Malone. Leslie Shiner, Owner of The Shiner Group, will talk about sustainable growth and exit strategy planning. Advanced project documentation will be headed up by Michael Cogbill, principal of REV2 Consulting.

Integrators can also advance their skillsets with technical training, hands-on workshops, and certification preparation courses. Highlights include the return of CEDIA’s hands-on rack building workshop; an immersive audio system design workshop based on the newly defined CEDIA/CTA Recommended Practice-22, led by CEDIA Fellow Peter Aylett of Officina Acustica, Adam Pelz of Bespoke Cinemas and Integration, and Ben Goff of Cinema Lusso; and an in-depth exploration of changes to the 2023 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), led by Cogbill and CEDIA Director of Technical Education Ken Erdmann.

The conference is also designed to help the integration community understand how emerging technologies will impact their work and create new opportunities. This year’s program features sessions on content technologies, network protocols, blockchain security, and accessible and biophilic design, as well as sessions dedicated to the fast-growing lighting and resimercial markets.

Two of CEDIA’s highest-rated instructors, Rich Green, founder of Rich Green Design, and Michael Heiss of M. Heiss Consulting, will present a “Pre-Game” session offering their insights into what to expect from the show floor. In the Friday “Post-Game” session, they’ll return to discuss their show highlights and recommend “must sees” for the final day of the exhibition.
