CES 2024: Samsung Dubs This the “AI Screen” Era

Samsung revealed several new innovations at its press conference at CES 2024 and gave members of the media a sneak peek the night prior at its First Look event. Among the new products is a new line of Neo QLED TVs, Micro LEDs, OLEDs, and lifestyle displays. The new TVs feature Samsung’s next-gen AI processor along with AI-powered features secured by Samsung Knox. Samsung Neo QLED 8K & 4K TVs

Samsung’s new Neo QLED 8K and 4K TVs feature the new NQ8 AI Gen 3 processor, which the company says is twice as fast as its predecessor. There are also 512 neural networks versus just 64 in the previous generation, which affords crisp on-screen detail.

They feature 8K AI upscaling Pro, which leverages NQ8 AI Gen3 to sharpen resolution, along with AI Motion Enhancer Pro, which helps improve streaming of sports by automatically detecting the sport type and using deep learning to apply the proper ball detection model.

There’s also Real Depth Enhancer Pro, which adds details to fast-moving scenes using AI, giving images a more lifelike quality. Infinity Air Design, meanwhile, provides a screen that’s just 12.9mm in depth for a more immersive experience. A unique mirror effect gives the impression that the TV is hovering in its surroundings.

For audio, there’s 2024 Q-Symphony, which allows you to connect multiple wireless speakers and a soundbar to a TV or projector for syncing across shows, movies, and playlists. Active Voice Amplifier Pro is a proprietary AI dialogue booster that uses deep-learning technology to enhance dialogue and voices on screen. It separates voices from mixed audio, enhancing voice input so you can easily follow the conversation on screen at any volume.

Samsung Tizen

The Tizen OS affords a more personalized experience on the new TVs, allowing you to set up different accounts for each member of the family in the household so you can personalized recommendations and a more customized experience.

The updated Samsung TV Plus user interface includes a new home screen with an overview of available content, with added categories for faster content discovery. The service will also connect with Samsung accounts so you can easily access favourite channels and content and receive tailored content suggestions based on viewing history.

Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub Controller

Samsung has partnered with gaming accessory provider Performance Designed Products (PDP) to develop the first “Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub” controller, set to be launched at CES 2024. PDP’s new wireless controller includes a built-in, rechargeable battery that provides up to 40 hours of playtime per charge, a 30-foot low-latency Bluetooth wireless connection, a Samsung Gaming Hub home button capable of launching Gaming Hub, an easy-to-use TV volume control button and more.

Samsung Daily+ Hub

The Samsung Daily+ is a new hub for home control of connected devices, providing a range of services and features, including personal training and telehealth, video calls, remote PC solutions, and more, all from a single interface.  

The free Workout Tracker service shows workout duration and heart rate from compatible wearable devices on your screen. TechnoGym enhances your home workout with high-quality fitness and wellness videos from world-class instructors at TechnoGym. You can also experience F45’s dynamic HIIT workouts in your living room through high-intensity workout videos and wellness challenges. FlexIt offers live one-on-one sessions with top fitness and wellness professionals; while Dr.Tail provides real-time video consultation with a vet in the comfort of your home.

Multi Control allows you to more efficiently work from home by providing control of all screens, including TVs, smartphones, and monitors, with a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. You can copy and paste, read documents, and more across devices.

Through a new SmartThings Mobile Plugin, you can turn the smartphone into a remote with a pop-up interface and customizable UI.   

Additionally, 360 Audio, previously offered on Galaxy devices, that’s now expanded to Samsung TVs and screens. Samsung Galaxy Buds connect to TVs to deliver spatial audio for movies, shows, and even gaming titles. With Vibrary, enjoy images from your favourite artist via the big screen TV. Also use Ambient Mode and Casting.

For accessibility, there are enhanced offering through audio subtitles that use AI and optical character recognition (OCR) technology for voice guidance, the Remote for Barrier Free app designed for those with visual, auditory, or physical disabilities, and more, and Relumino Together Mode that helps those with low vision enjoy TV content, movies, and games.

Micro LED

Samsung also showcased its new transparent Micro LED technology, with a screen that looks like transparent glass. It uses small micro LED chips with precision manufacturing that eliminates seams and light refraction. It employs a modular design so you can personalize the shape, size, and ratio of the screens to fit any space, in both residential and commercial applications. LED chip operation circuits are directly deposited on the glass, preventing a loss of brightness that you may experience with conventional displays.

In OLED TVs, Samsung is offering the S95D in a 77-inch size offering a high frame rate of up to 144Hz and a display that’s 20% brighter than previous models while also offering deep and rich blacks. AI-enhanced colour accuracy is Pantone Validated. The S90D and S85D are also launching, available in sizes ranging from 42 inches up to 83 inches.

Samsung OLED glare-free

New ‘OLED Glare Free’ technology, which was specifically designed for 2024 OLED screens, preserves colour accuracy and reduces reflections while maintaining image sharpness to ensure an immersive viewing experience, even in daylight. The low-reflection coating is thanks to a new, specialized hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern.

Upgrades to The Frame Art Mode

Under its “lifestyle” line, Samsung is offering a new art experience for The Frame TV, with more than 2,500 pieces of artwork from world-renowned museums and galleries in the Art Store. The Frame’s new art streaming feature provides a selection of free hand-selected artworks monthly. There’s also now variable refresh rate adjustment available in Art Mode to help further conserve energy,

Premiere 4K Short Throw Projector

The Premiere 8K ultra short throw projector offers wireless connectivity, and comes with smart features including picture-off premium home audio, cloud gaming, always-on voice with far-field mic, and four multi-view screen splits. Samsung’s patented “Sound-on-Screen” technology  integrates the top speaker module and software algorithms.

The Freestyle 2nd Gen

The Freestyle 2nd Gen is the second iteration of the portable projector that now features Smart Edge Blending, which supports seamless merging of projections from two The Freestyle devices to create a large screen for pictures and videos. It allows two devices to project an image as big as 160-inches with a 21:9 screen ratio, with no manual adjustment needed.

Music Frame

A unique new product, Music Frame is like a miniature version of The Frame TV that allows you to display a single photograph or piece of artwork like you would in a traditional photo frame, but with a twist. It contains a built-in speaker that’s compatible with SmartThings. It provides surround sound when paired with Samsung TVs and soundbars. Music Frame can either operate as a standalone wireless speaker or pair with a Samsung TV and soundbar via Q-Symphony to augment bass and surround sound.

New Soundbars

The HW-Q990D soundbar features a 11.1.4-channel configuration, immersive Dolby Atmos sound, and supports pass through of content in 4K 120Hz. It analyzes audio and uses AI to optimize sound. The HW-S800D is an ultra-thin, 1.6-inch-deep soundbar designed to fit seamlessly into any space. At only a third of the depth of conventional soundbars, the S800D has 10 drivers, including dedicated overhead speakers and a centre channel for clear vocals. The combination of a deep bass subwoofer and a passive radiator also enhances the listening experience with deep, distortion-free bass in a compact form factor.
