Freedom Mobile’s Roam Beyond Plan Works in 73 Destinations

Many roaming plans can work in plenty of destinations from the top wireless providers. But that isn’t always the case with the “discount” counterparts. Freedom Mobile, however, which is now owned by Quebecor as a wholly owned subsidiary of Videotron Ltd., has launched its new “Roam Beyond” plan that allows subscribers to stay connected in 73 destinations around the world.

In addition to Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, subscribers to the Roam Beyond plan with Freedom Mobile can now connect in popular locations in Europe, the Caribbean, Asia and the Middle East, among others.

What’s different with this plan is that rather than charge customers a daily roaming fee, which can be as high as $16, the plan is designed for frequent travelers and can be used with its base price. This is relatively high at $65/mo. (after a Digital Discount) but includes 60GB international mobile data, unlimited global texting, and unlimited local and back-to-Canada calling. To get the Digital Discount, you need to activate a new postpaid or prepaid service, set up auto pay, and redeem the $5/mo. off code.

Note that if the Roam Beyond data allotment is exceeded within the validity period, you will incur pay-per-use charges. For the U.S., this would be $0.03/MB, $0.20/min. for talk, and $0.10 per text.

Other available travel passes include Roam Beyond for 73 destinations from $20 for 30 days and Roam Beyond for 94 destinations for from $30 for 30 days. Currently, Freedom Mobile is waiving all long distance and SMS charges for customers to Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip through November 30, 2023 while roaming charges for customers who are in those regions will also be waived.

“Freedom continues with their innovative spirit reinventing international roaming with an offer never before seen in Canada, making it easier for our customers to stay connected when they travel,” says Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor. “We’re shaking up the international roaming market, which our competitors have allowed to stagnate for too long. We continue to disrupt the status quo and go above and beyond our commitments to Canadians.”

Freedom Mobile has also extended 5G access to all plans priced $39 and up. Approximately 200,000 more customers now have access to the latest wireless technology, at no extra cost.
