John Wiebe has been appointed Director of Business Development for OnePlus in Canada, effective April 11, 2023. Wiebe, in conjunction with OnePlus, will establish a retail presence and develop brand awareness in Canada. OnePlus products include a line-up of wired and wireless earbuds like the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 we recently reviewed, as well as unlocked smartphones, and an upcoming tablet.
Wiebe is a consumer technology industry veteran with 35 years of experience in the business. Currently, he also serves as Director of Business Development for Canada at Skyworth USA, which manufactures a line of Android-based smart TVs, including OLED and miniLED TVs offered in a range of sizes and with resolution up to 8K.
OnePlus and Skyworth have worked together on projects in other parts of the world. “It’s an advantageous collaboration to work with both brands,” Wiebe tells WiFi HiFi, “building a strategy that befits both companies’ goals in Canada.”
OnePlus will work with big box retailers and strong regional players that sell both consumer electronics and unlocked phones. “We want to be selective in determining channels,” Wiebe notes, “and find the best way for the brand to grow quickly and profitably.
