Motorola is introducing its new moto g play-2024 smartphone, which boasts an impressive feature set alongside access to the Family Space app, which allows parents to create a designated safe space on the device so young kids can use it.
The phone has an impressively large 6.5-inch HD+ display with a decent 90Hz refresh rate. Using auto mode, refresh rate can adjust from 60Hz up to 90Hz depending on the application in order to conserve battery life.
Running on Android 13 and with the 6nm Snapdragon 680 4G mobile platform, the phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support and Hi-Res Audio certification so you get an immersive audio experience when listening to music or watching movies.
Equipped with a 50MP fast-focusing main camera with quad pixel technology, HDR, and phase detection autofocus, the moto g play 2024 can take great photos, even in low light. There’s also an 8MP front camera and a neat Photobooth feature for allowing you to stitch together four poses in four timed photos for fun group shots.
The new moto g play-2024 comes equipped with Corning Gorilla 3 for the screen and an IP52 protection rating for durability against cuts, scratches, spills, and splashes. It’s also protected by ThinkShield for Mobile and comes with Moto Unplugged and the latest Moto Secure features.
Family Space is an app from Motorola that allows you to design a “safe space” on the device where kids can play. This is ideal for partners of toddlers and young children who want to hand the phone over to them for short spurts of screen time but don’t want them to be able to access private or non-age-appropriate content. But it also includes parental controls, like screen time limits, the ability to block apps, and multiple profile options. This makes it a viable option as a first phone for a school-aged child as well.
Get up to 46 hours of battery life per charge or almost two full days, and rapid charge it at 15W when you need an extra battery boost in a pinch.
The Motorola g play-2024 will be available through select carriers in Canada starting January 26, 2024; pricing will vary by carrier. Interestingly, it will launch in the U.S. unlocked later, starting February 8, for an MSRP of $150.
