The TCL 50XE NXTPAPER 5G phone, first seen at CES 2024 earlier this year (and offered for hands-on demos at Mobile World Congress), is now available in Canada, promising a natural viewing experience, rich colours, improved brightness, and clear contrast.
The phone employs proprietary technology that TCL says combines hardware and software to filter harmful blue light by up to 61%. The HD+ matte screen also helps diminish glare, both indoors and outside. This also helps eliminate fingerprints from gathering on the screen. The dimmed screen light also allows for easy bedtime viewing, or scrolling in the dark.

Equipped with a 6.6-inch HD+ clarity screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and touch sampling rate of up to 180Hz, it is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 2.2GHz octa-core processor and has 4GB RAM. With 128GB storage, this is expandable up to 1TB via optional microSD card.
The 5,010mAh battery offers all-day use. There’s also face unlock and a side-mounted fingerprint biometric reader.

The phone has a 50MP real triple camera that can capturehigh-resolution photos and videos, even in low light. It also incorporates AI features and an additional lens to measure depth of field. There’s also a 2MP depth capture lens for low-light scenes, close-ups, and landscapes and an 8MP front camera for selfies.
The TCL 50XE NXTPAPER 5G will sell in Canada for $300 outright, though pricing will vary from carrier to carrier. It comes in Space Blue and has launched at Bell, Virgin Plus, Videotron, and Freedom Mobile and will come to Rogers and Fido in the coming months.
