TerraMaster has launched the D8 Hybrid 2, a major upgrade to its popular hybrid storage line.
Designed for users who need both high-speed active storage and vast archive capacity, the D8 Hybrid 2 combines four SATA HDDs/SSDs and four M.2 NVMe SSDs in a single enclosure, delivering a flexible, high-performance platform for video editing, media libraries, backups, NAS expansion and multi-system workflows.
Powered by USB 3.2 Gen 2 with 10Gbps bandwidth, the D8 Hybrid 2 achieves read speeds of up to 1020MB/s with a single NVMe SSD, while four HDDs, depending on RAID configuration, could reach up to 980MB/s. This enables faster large-file transfers, smoother 4K/8K editing, and near-instant project loading. A 5GB HD movie could, for example, be transferred in around five seconds, significantly reducing workflow bottlenecks for creators and professionals.
The D8 Hybrid 2 introduces TerraMaster’s new TPM (TerraMaster Power Management) technology, a proprietary system engineered to improve energy efficiency, enhance operational safety, and deliver faster drive wake-up times. TPM ensures stable performance during heavy workloads while intelligently balancing power consumption for long-term reliability.
The enclosure also features a redesigned chassis with a front-mounted power button, improved internal airflow, and TerraMaster’s signature Push-Lock tool-free drive trays, allowing secure installation of HDDs and SSDs without tools. M.2 NVMe SSDs can be installed in just seconds using the side sliding cover and hand-tightened screws.
The D8 Hybrid 2 supports hot and cold data tiering, allowing users to store frequently accessed “hot” data on NVMe SSDs for high-speed access, while archiving “cold” data on HDDs for cost-effective long-term retention. Cooling performance has been enhanced through an intelligent temperature-controlled FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) fan, rated for over 50,000 hours of operation. This makes the enclosure ideal for studios, photographers, videographers, surveillance users, and anyone managing large volumes of mixed-use data.
The D8 Hybrid 2 is fully plug-and-play with no drivers required, supporting macOS, Windows, Linux, NAS systems, and a wide range of file systems including NTFS, APFS, EXT4, FAT32, and exFAT. It offers seamless multi-system sharing and can connect directly to computers, servers, TVs, set-top boxes, and Thunderbolt devices. For backup and data protection, TerraMaster includes its complimentary TPC Backupper software for Windows, supporting incremental and differential backup strategies. Mac users can leverage built-in Time Machine support for backup.
For NAS users, the D8 Hybrid 2 functions as a high-capacity DAS expansion enclosure, fully compatible with TerraMaster TOS 5 and TOS 6. It can directly recognize four HDD + four SSD configurations, enabling storage pool creation, RAID setup, and snapshot functionality. It also supports expansion across Windows Server, Linux, Proxmox, TrueNAS and Unraid, making it a flexible solution for enterprise, studio and prosumer environments.
