Kijiji is raising the bar for trust in Canadian peer-to-peer commerce through a new collaboration with Interac called Interac Verified. Canadians use Kijiji to connect across thousands of categories ranging from cars and homes to furniture. With over four million live listings and more than one million new listings added monthly, Kijiji remains one of Canada’s busiest online marketplaces. While ratings and reviews have been key to building confidence, the introduction of Interac Verified solutions adds a robust new layer of security, setting a fresh benchmark for online transactions in Canada.

Effective immediately, Kijiji users with accounts at participating financial institutions can verify their identity using Interac’s verification service. Later this year, a document verification pathway featuring liveness checks with accepted government-issued ID, will be introduced, allowing for more flexibility. Both options, powered by Interac Verified solutions, accommodate varying comfort levels and transaction needs. Once verified, users will receive confirmation of their verified status.
“Trust is at the heart of every Kijiji transaction, and we’re committed to strengthening it,” said Amanda Zeffiro, General Manager, Kijiji Canada. “By integrating Interac Verified solutions, we’re empowering Canadians to confidently transact with people they haven’t met, regardless of what they’re buying.”

Kijiji’s choice to partner with Interac reflects the trust Canadians already place in Interac Verified solutions, which operate on the same secure network used by financial institutions and governments to verify identity. Keeping identity data within Canadian regulatory and trust frameworks was a conscious decision, especially as Canadians become more aware of where their information goes and how it’s handled.
“Interac Verified solutions were created to extend the trust of the Interac network to identity verification,” said Giles Sutherland, Head of Business Development at Interac. “With millions of Canadians transacting on Kijiji each month, verified identity makes a tangible impact at those moments.”
Verified identity will enhance, not replace, existing trust signals like ratings and reviews. Reputation speaks to past transactions, while verified identity confirms who someone is. In high-value categories like automotive and real estate, it offers greater assurance before committing to major purchases. For everyday items such as furniture, phones, and clothing, it reduces uncertainty when meeting new people, supporting safer transaction practices.

Nearly 300 financial institutions are connected to the Interac network, and Canadians use Interac products more than 20 million times daily.
