Niagara Falls, ON-based Fluance has launched its newest RT87 Reference High Fidelity Dual-Plinth turntable, which it calls its “most advanced” model in the Reference Series.
Designed with vibration control as its core engineering principle, the RT87 features a dual-plinth isolation platform, which the company says “preserves signal purity at the stylus for greater tonal accuracy, clarity, and high-fidelity listening.”
It boasts a newly engineered nine-inch carbon fibre tonearm with a high-mass acrylic platter and a choice of two premium audiophile cartridges. Together with adjustable VTA and a hanging-weight anti-skate system, the platform offers accurate groove tracking.
At the core of the RT87 is a newly developed dual-plinth architecture engineered to isolate signal-path components from unwanted resonance and environmental vibration. The motor is mounted independently on the lower plinth, while the tonearm and cartridge assembly sit on a decoupled upper plinth separated by precision conical isolators.
This physical separation helps reduce the transfer of motor-borne resonance and external vibration before it can reach the stylus, says Fluance, helping maintain accurate groove tracking and cleaner signal reproduction. Dense wood plinths further dampen mechanical resonance, producing a quiet acoustic background with greater instrument separation, imaging, and sonic depth.
The nine-inch carbon fibre tonearm is engineered for low resonance, high rigidity, and precise stylus control. Its longer straight-arm geometry traces a gentler arc across the record surface, reducing tracking error while improving overall sonic performance.
Adjustable Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) allows listeners to fine-tune cartridge alignment for optimal stylus contact and enhanced detail retrieval, while a removable headshell simplifies cartridge upgrades and adjustments so you can evolve the setup over time.
The Fluance RT87 is available in two configurations, each paired with a carefully selected premium moving magnet cartridge. The Audio-Technica AT-VM95ML configuration features a Microlinear stylus capable of reaching deeper into the groove for detailed retrieval, low distortion, and high-resolution sound. Listeners seeking a highly musical presentation can opt for the Ortofon 2M Blue, a cartridge known for its balanced sound, accurate tracking, and rich tonal character.
The RT87 comes with a thicker and heavier 4.1 lb., 22mm anti-static acrylic platter designed to improve rotational stability while minimizing unwanted resonance. Its increased mass helps reduce wow and flutter, while the acoustic properties of acrylic closely resemble those of vinyl itself, helping suppress vibration and maintain greater sonic consistency throughout the listening experience, Fluance explains. The belt-driven system supports 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM playback speeds, and includes convenient auto-stop functionality.
The Fluance RT87 incorporates premium components throughout, including gold-plated Tiffany RCA connections for clean signal transfer and precision-machined tonearm components for accurate playback performance. The platform is also intentionally upgrade friendly.
