Motorola has introduced two new smartphones: the affordable, foldable Motorola razr and the Motorola edge.
The new Motorola razr is designed similarly to the razr+, unfolding into a premium smartphone. It runs on new software called Moto Unplugged that intends to help remove distractions so you can be more present in the moment. Simple choose essential apps and contacts you want to remain available, and when you want to unplug, select a timeframe and start a digital break. This might be during work hours when you only want access to e-mail and Microsoft Teams, or during family dinner when you want to shut down social media and messaging apps.
The phone, which comes finished in Cherry Blossom, Sage Green, Vanilla Cream, or Summer Lilac, has a 6.9-inch pOLED display made of Corning Gorilla Glass with an up to 144Hz refresh rate. The back, meanwhile, is made of premium vegan leather material that Motorola says is easy to grip and open while also being soft to the touch. With Flex View technology, you can angle the device to view content like recipes or a workout, or to video chat. You can also use the phone as a stand to capture images hands-free.
The razr 2023 has a 64MP main camera with OIS along with a 13MP ultra-wide + macro vision lens and a 32MP front “selfie” camera for self-portraits and video calls. It also features Dolby Atmos and Spatial Sound by Moto for a more immersive audio experience. Get all day per charge with the 4,200mAh battery, which also supports fast 30W TurboPower charging as well as wireless charging (with optional chargers).
The Motorola razr 2023 will be available in Canada for pre-order starting October 12 and officially available starting October 19. It will sell unlocked for an MSRP of $1,000, making it one of the most affordable foldable smartphones, if not the most affordable, on the market today.
Meanwhile, the moto edge (2023) has borderless, curved and contoured edges that make it comfortable to hold along with the same vegan leather back for a soft and stylish look. It features a sandblasted aluminum frame and IP68 underwater protection.
As one of the thinnest smartphones in its class at just 7.64mm, the Motorola edge packs in a powerful 50MP camera system with a wide aperture. The camera system features 2.0µm Ultra Pixels to capture more light, instant all-pixel focus with 32x more focusing pixels, and OIS for stabilized shots and more accurate low-light performance. You can focus faster with the Ambient Light Sensor that instantly measures the amount of light. This speeds up focus time, especially in low-light situations. There’s also a wide aperture (f/1.4) that allows for 64% more light to reach the sensor, which helps provide better low light performance as well as soft background focus that creates a natural bokeh effect. There’s also a 13MP ultrawide camera with Macro Vision and a 32MP hi-res selfie cam with auto focus.
Additionally, you’ll find new video and camera enhancements Horizon Lock Stabilization, Video Portrait, and Vlog Mode. The camera features also include Audio Zoom, which filters out ambient noise so you get the best sound quality when zooming in on a specific subject.
The Motorola edge comes equipped with a borderless 6.6″ HDR10+ pOLED display that meets cinematic standards for colour range, brightness, colour accuracy, and contrast level. It also boasts 144Hz refresh rate that adjusts automatically to optimize battery life; and Dolby Atmos and Motorola Spatial Sound for immersive audio as well.
The 4,400mAh battery can last up to 30 hours and the phone supports 68W TurboPower charging that can provide an entire day’s worth of use after just 10 minutes. It also supports 15W wireless charging and features 5W wireless power sharing for recharging a secondary device.
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 chipset, it connects to both Wi-Fi 6E and 5G networks and comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has a Ready For wireless connection and PC compatibility, and runs on Android 13.
