Motorola’s Razr+ Foldable Is More Powerful, Better Designed, and Comes with Google AI

Motorola is following up Razr+ 2023 with the new Razr+ 2024 foldable phone, as well as the Razr 2024, successor to the Razr 2023. Along with powerful AI features, they also boast better specs and improved designs.

The Motorola Razr+ 2024, also known as the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, measures 6.9 inches in pOLED screen size once unfolded. When folded, the external screen is a massive 4 inches in size, and allows you to access tons of apps, features, and functions without opening the phone. This is a sizeable increase from the external screen in the Motorola Razr+ 2023, which was 3.6 inches.

In addition to apps via panels, you will also be able to access the Google Gemini app right from the external display by simply pressing and holding the power button. To get you familiar with how it works, the phone will come with a three-month trial to Gemini Advanced so you can use it in apps like Gmail and Docs, along with 2TB cloud storage.

Additionally, you can access Google Photos from the external display, sharing, viewing, deleting, and favouriting images and videos without opening the phone. There’s also a dedicated Spotify panel for skipping songs, and a Bose panel for controlling compatible Bose earbuds and headphones.

Motorola is offering a new suite of clock faces and fun customization options for the external display. You can change the Desk Display to feature a rotation of text and images, effectively making your own personalized screensavers. Through moto ai, there’s also Style Sync, which develops wallpaper options based on your outfit. Magic Canvas, meanwhile, generates a stunning image based on a text prompt.

Finished with a soft vegan leather back and contoured edges, the Motorola Razr+ comes in Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Peach Fuzz, the Pantone Color of the Year 2024, and Hot Pink as a throwback to the original Razr. The Motorola Razr, also known as the Motorola Razr 50, comes in Beach Sand, Koala Grey, and Spritz Orange.

Both phones have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus screens and IPX5 water-resistant ratings (but no dust resistant rating). This still means they can be submerged in up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. The simplified hinge does offer better dust protection, however, says Motorola.

Speaking of the hinge, it has been redesigned to make it easier to flick open or snap the device shut with one hand. There are a range of Flex View positions for recording content, watching videos, gaming, and more. Photo Booth is now available on the external and internal cameras, stitching together four photos in a ready-to-share collage that mimics the look of those old shopping mall photo booths.

The Motorola Razr+ 2024 has a 50MP high-res main camera system with moto ai camera capabilities and Google Photos AI-powered editing features. With the 50MP telephoto lens, you can take advantage of the 2x optical zoom without losing image quality. There are also interesting AI-powered camera features.

Photo Enhancement Engine uses AI to simultaneously apply settings from multiple shooting modes into one, fine tuning photos for detail, clarity, highlights, shadows, colour, and bokeh effects. Adaptive Stabilization determines the speed of movement while filming and dynamically adjusts the stabilization level for the best results.

Action Shot automatically increases and adjusts shutter speed and illumination based on different lighting conditions; while Long Exposure allows for capturing artistic light trails or smooth waterfalls with a single tap. Super Zoom enhances results through an AI-based machine learning algorithm, to capture details even when far away.

The Motorola Razr 2024, meanwhile, also has a 50MP camera system that includes a 13MP ultra-wide/Macro Vision lens.

The Motorola Razr+ 2024 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform, which powers all the AI features. There are new AI features built into apps like Google Messages, like Magic Compose and Photomoji.

The phone has a 4,000mAh battery that offers 5W reverse and 15W wireless charging capabilities.

By comparison, the Motorola Razr 2024 has an even bigger 4,200mAh battery and supports 30W TurboPower charging with an appropriate charger (sold separately). It also has 15W wireless charging capabilities and comes with a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor.

Motorola’s Hello UX software platform is also included, offering a personalized experience, immersive capabilities, and an intuitive user interface. You can create a safe environment for kids with Family Space, disconnect with Moto Unplugged, and enjoy comprehensive security settings with Moto Secure.

New features are coming to moto ai in the coming months. With a simple prompt of “Catch me up,” you will receive a prioritized summary of personal communications, eliminating the need to sift through notifications. Asking “Pay attention” will enable instant recording of conversations or speakers, automatically transcribing and summarizing them.

A command to “Remember this” will capture live moments or on-screen information, saving them automatically with AI-generated details. Information will be stored on the device for easy recall later.

Additionally, you will be able to access moto ai anywhere on the phone for assistance, quick suggestions, and answers to questions, including device usage guidance or more complex inquiries using Gemini from Google Cloud.

Complementing these new phones, Motorola is also introducing moto tag, a small, accessory-friendly Bluetooth LE tag with Ultra Wideband that helps you locate valuable possessions, like a wallet, purse, or luggage, through Google’s Find My Device network.
