Powerbeats Pro 2

Just released this week, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 from Beats for iPhone and Android, boasts advanced features like heart rate monitoring for workouts. With a clever redesigned earhook, there are significant upgrades to sound, battery life, and call performance plus Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency mode. The Powerbeats Pro $350 boast an IPX4 rating to withstand splashes. The redesigned acoustic architecture and Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head delivers immersive sound, with clear highs, rich mid-range tones, and deep bass. Beats leveraged Apple’s best-performing Active Noise Cancelling technology and added Transparency mode to allow athletes to hear the world around them. Adaptive EQ which tunes sound in real time is based on how the Powerbeats Pro 2 fits in the user’s ear (five more tips are included for best fit). It uses inward-facing microphone monitors for sound. Then, Adaptive EQ, powered by computational audio, tunes the low and mid frequencies to account for what may be lost due to variances in fit. The Powerbeats Pro 2 app also offers to test the right tip fit. At launch, the Runna, Nike Run Club, Open, Ladder, Peloton, Slopes, and YaoYao apps are compatible with the buds for monitoring your heartbeat workouts. On-ear buttons or hands-free Siri can be used to control music while the live heart monitoring continues, and is saved in your workout app…impressive. Powered by the Apple-designed efficient H2 chip, the Powerbeats Pro 2 deliver up to 45 hours of battery life with the charging case, with each bud delivering up to 10 hours of playback per charge. It also has wireless charging. Fast Fuel, a five-minute charge provides up to 90 minutes of playback and “Locate my Beats” finds the last place you used them with location on. It comes in Jet Black, Quick Sand, Hyper Purple, and Electric Orange. What these buds may lack in finesse is overwhelmed in sound quality, ruggedness, features, comfort and virtually guaranteed to stay on.

Ninja Sizzle Smokeless Indoor Grill

Ninja Sizzle

The deceptively simple Ninja Sizzle smokeless indoor grill ($100) has one control: an on/off temperature knob that turns up to 260° C (500°F) for real char-grilled marks right from your kitchen countertop. But boy, can it ever cook up a storm with the help of a real colourful quick start guide and comprehensive table (I hate QR codes in the kitchen, don’t you?) It has edge-to-edge even heat for everything from crispy veggies to tender chicken breasts and more. It comes with a typical grill and flat-top griddle for food that requires constant flipping, like stir-fry, eggs, French toast, and more. The 14’’ (36cm) grill plate fits a half dozen burgers and chicken breasts to feed a family of 4-6 people. The runoff oil catcher is generously sized, too. The perforated dishwasher-safe mesh lid effectively eliminates smoke and reduces splatter cooking food the hottest. It also retains heat over the cooked food for melt toppings. Keeping the lid up and a 260° C setting gives the perfect sear. What’s cooking with the Ninja Sizzle? Smash burgers with sautéed mushrooms, grilled caprice chicken breasts, dijon marinated salmon with asparagus, or grilled pineapple cake. It ships with a spatula, handy grill-cleaning brush, and five stainless steel skewers.

Ninja Sip Perfect Travel Mug

The Ninja Sip Perfect 16oz Travel Mug ($50) is unique in that it uses HeatStore technology, which absorbs heat energy stored between the inner and outer walls to keep the ideal temperature for hours, minutes after the initial pour. Compare that to a standard vacuum insulated mug, which constantly starts cooling off after the initial fill. The leak-proof lid is cleverly engineered to prevent leaks, drips, and spills and ergonomically designed with easy one-handed open and close for sipping on the go. Made of 18/8 stainless steel that resists scratches and dents, it’s dishwasher safe and BPA-free. The mug comes in Jade Green, Black, Navy, or White with a five-year warranty.

Sonos Era 300 Speaker

Sonos has a great Wi-Fi-based product line, including the Sonos Era 300, which sells for $559 and that we reviewed when it launched two years ago. This medium-sized multi-element flagship speaker has an excellent rich balance of high, mid, and bass sound, creating impressive spaciousness. It streams from all your favourite services and devices with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as connects directly to a turntable or other audio source using an auxiliary cable and the Sonos Line-In Adapter. Depending on your budget, you can affordably add two Era 100 stereo speakers followed by a Sub Mini for a solid sound system. Or build upward with a second Era 300 stereo, Dolby Atmos sound bar, and a sub for a full home theatre system.
